Let me first say the office staff is great. While we truly enjoyed our stay here for it's small size and quietness this camp needs a major update. Sadly this campground has been forgotten and left behind by MN funding. The showers and bathrooms are very worn out. The docks in the lower campground are completely rotted away or covered by downed trees. Really thought we could fish those as they were close to our campsite but sadly they are not functional at all. The fishing cleaning station sure could use a water spigot as well. I would still love to return here despite these flaws. Just makes me sad to see a park with so much potential just completely left behind. I would still highly recommend staying here as there still are many pros and it's a nice campground overall.

This place was amazing. If you are looking for a place with plenty of overlooks and no mosquitoes, this is it. 90% of the park is grassland, which means you will encounter minimal bugs, unless you walk around Signalness Lake. The high peak trail and overlook are good, but lots of the hills in the southern part of the park offer better views of the lakes in the park.

Really enjoyed this state park. Big Glacial Mounds, Very Scenic Lake, and some good Prairie. Nice length to the main trail(s) We took a trip out to western MN last fall and hit 4-5 state parks, this was my favorite.

It was a beautiful little park. Very nice place to have coffee in the morning and do a nice morning hike. The trails and the restrooms were very well-kept. Highly recommend a stop.

Birch Lakes would be the closest state forest, but I'm not sure that's "nearby"
Not everyone, just certain ones. You can go online (www.dnr.state.MN.us/state_parks) and view / reserve campsites
