Merrell was recommended by my foot doctor. I looked them up online and found there was a store fairly close to me. I went there the next day and explained what I was looking for and picked out a few to try on. I ended up buy two pairs of boots that were extremely comfortable. I am a happy customer.

We went to get my husband high top hikers appropriate for The Wave and he only wears Merrell's. We found perfect hikers for him and they had buy one get two half off so of course I had to get two pairs, lol. I love that they do have some wide width options. Really great deals and nice helpful staff.

If you have the receipt you should be able to exchange directly at the store. I would call them. They are very helpful with returns and can give you warranty options.
I don't know if this is a franchise, but, Merrell is owned by Wolverine. Merrell has been around since 1981 (it was indeed family owned prior to 1997). Their hiking shoes, and shoes in general, are rather high end and are quite durable. I recommend the Moab line of shoes.
