Staff was so friendly. I was in for a new card. My old one was lost. I also needed to print some stuff off my Email. This is a really big facility.

So nice in there and staff is always helpful and nice. It is also a very beautiful plane with seating outside! Would be amazing if they had a waterfall outside!

This is a lovely library, spacious and clean with a decent amount of selection. I love the comfortable reading chairs everywhere! They are laid out by large windows so you can read in plenty of natural light, and there is even a large outdoor seating area (a covered deck) where you can read outside. A library for readers. The staff is also exceedingly friendly and helpful.

Important item number one: The free parking lot is behind the entire plaza, so circle around second where you'll find it. Important item number two: the WiFi on the first floor is terrible, so proceed upstairs when you need to get online. There are plenty of power outlets everywhere in the library, as well as some truly incredible art, and it is quite a beautiful environment overall. I was tempted to give it a four out of five, simply based on the cold character of some of the staff, but the library itself and the art are winning me over. Awesome find!

At this time, the Lee County Library System has not resumed any in-person programming so any library-sponsored book discussions remain on hiatus. Please check back in the Fall on our website under Calendar of Events. Additionally, you may ask at the library for information about any virtual or self-directed reading events.
We have a large collection of Manga, in various genres, throughout the Lee County Library System, especially at the Fort Myers Regional Library in the Young Adult department. Please check our catalog for specific titles and visit us to see our collection. If you have titles to recommend, please speak with our Young Adult Librarian.
The Lee County Library System has "The Grain Brain Whole Life Plan: Boost Brain Performance, Lose Weight, and Achieve Optimal Health" at a number of locations in regular and Large Print. That title is not currently on the shelf at the Fort Myers Regional Library. Please call Telephone Reference at 239-479-4636 or enter a live chat with us on our website to place a request to transfer a copy from another location for you.
We would be happy to help you with your account. You can call us in Telephone Reference at 239-479-4636 and provide us with your library card number. You can also call our automated account information line, 239-485-8585. You will need your library card number and PIN (by default, the last 4 digits of the phone number you registered with us.
The children's department has child-size table & chairs as well as wider "read together" chairs. The First Floor has a space called the Edison Room with comfortable chairs and side tables, like an airport lounge. The Second Floor is Adult Services and has tables, chairs, and an outside reading deck. Additionally, the Plaza adjacent to the library has tables and chairs. If you have more specific questions, please call us in Telephone Reference at 239-479-4636.
Thank you for your interest. We will pass your request along to the programming staff. Keep checking our website for events at the library or sign up to receive our events newsletter. https://www.leegov.com/library/subscribe
You do not specify your age in your question. We have occasional chess programs in our Teen area but we do not offer a Chess Club as an adult, regularly occurring event. The Fort Myers Regional Library has vast outdoor seating on the Cornog Plaza as well as a Reading Deck on the 2nd Floor. We have tables and chairs throughout the 2nd Floor where you can play chess, but boisterous play would be discouraged. We also have study rooms that can accommodate up to 4 people at a time. I would encourage you to visit the the library, check out the space, and speak to our staff at the Reference Desk on the 2nd Floor.
We were able to find numerous references to Dr. James Kellum, but did not find that he wrote anything about his Civil War experiences. Here are the reference sources we checked: 1. The Lee County Library System catalog 2. Newspapers.com 3. First Search (OCLC catalog of books and other materials in libraries worldwide) 4. Ancestry.com 5. FindaGrave.com 6. Google Scholar 7. Google Books You may also want to try the Alva Library & Museum (239-822-4596) since Dr. Kellum was an early settler there. Also, the Southwest Florida Historical Society (239-939-4044) may have more information.
According to document SAJ-2020-01321 (SP-SJR), the Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) received an application for a Department of the Army permit pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (33 U.S.C. §1344) and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 (33 U.S.C. §403) from the City of Fort Myers concerning this parcel of land. The island is described as, "created from spoil material when the river was dredged by the Corps many years ago." There are no further details regarding specific dates. The City of Fort Myers Public Works office may have additional information. That office can be reached at 239-321-8100.
We have very few volumes of local year books. This is not something we specifically collect or archive. You can call us in Telephone Reference at 239-479-4636 to ask about a specific school and year. Our recommendation is to contact the School District of Lee County (239) 334-1102 and ask what is available through them.
The library has the Florida Statutes and we can assist you in additional research. We are unable to interpret law for you but can help you find resources. Stop by our Reference Department on the 2nd floor and talk to a Reference Librarian.
At this time, we have removed the majority of the furniture to allow for appropriate social distancing and we are discouraging extended visits. You may, however, bring your own laptop to use along with accessing the library's Wi-Fi and printing.
