Very educational experience about the non-violence movement that started from Atlanta! Better to reserve 2-3 hours in order to see everything in depth.

Hello why isn’t Castro part of the list of Communist Dictators in your museum?

Alex Jara | Oct 21, 2019
R Casey | Oct 21, 2019

This museum doesn't solely focus on African Americans but there is a great deal of memorabilia that is inclusive of the history. The museum is for human and civil rights and African Americans have had and continue to have a struggle on within both of those sectors. I think that the museum did a great job of trying to be inclusive and shed light on things that are commonly covered as well as those that aren't as well known. I learned a lot and look forward to going back. I have been to several Civil Rights museums and they all have something different to offer. In terms of Castro not being included as an oppressor in the human rights portion send them a letter with your questions and concerns. They receive mail at National Center for Civil and Human Rights, 250 Williams St., Suite 2322, Atlanta, GA 30303

Plenty parking lots around. No free parking unfortunately.

I have a set of 1890 Uncle Toms Cabin posters and wondering if the museum would be Interested in something like these.

JoAnn Zitelman-Gordy | Oct 21, 2018
Miss April Nola (Nuttie Foodie) | Oct 21, 2018

It may be more appropriate to donate items like this to a museum in Kentucky, Ohio, or Canada since those are places the characters actually journeyed on their quest for freedom in the novel. The Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site is actually located near Dresden, Ontario, Canada, and includes the home of the real-life hero Josiah Henson - former slave, author, abolitionist, and minister, whose story served as the inspiration for the novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The best way to donate items to any museum is to contact the director, curator, education coordinator, founder, or member of the board and simply ask whether the items are consistent with their mission and if they would like to add the treasures to their collection. Don't be disheartened by any "No's." Again, plan to ask several museums, especially if their is a direct connection. You might also consider donating to a school or specific teacher who will make good use of the posters in lessons.

How long does it generally take to tour the museum? Is it readily accessible for senior citizens?

Linda Ammons | Oct 21, 2018
Sheree Scott | Oct 21, 2018

The tour is at your own pace. So the more you read and watch the films the longer it will be. Yes it is senior citizen accessible.
