I lived here for 3 years and have thankfully relocated. In the past year Takoma Central never explained why a 500 sq ft studio went from being billed around $22 bucks a month for water to nearly $50 (where they finally landed). The staff member who greets you when you first walk in is defensive, promises to do stuff with zero follow through (still waiting for a referral check I was promised ~4 months ago), doesn't respond to emails thoughtfully but clearly hoping you just go away, and then gatekeeps Gabe - the only person getting things done in the building. I was charged "miscellaneous fees" of around ~$120 when I moved out a month ago but honestly at this point I'm so happy to not deal with Greystar and Takoma Central I'm over it. I emailed them to have my check changed to my new name but, naturally, received zero response and then received the check in my old name. Heads up - if you want to be hit w/ random water bills (at one point it was $120!), stress around getting transparent pricing, and to be woken up multiple times a year between the hours of 10pm-5am b/c they can't figure out how to navigate a fire alarm system then you've got yourself a good find. When I went to break my lease Takoma Central had no problem charging me the full 2 months. However, when I was asking for clarification about my options the front desk staff member, again, explained things hurriedly and confusingly. When I asked follow ups I'd be told, "I can understand why you're confused." I wasn't confused, you weren't explaining things clearly and made up an entire extra charge which you claimed you'd "waive" and when I asked you where in the Lease it was referenced I was, once again, promised follow-up that didn't come. Newsflash: the charge she was speaking about didn't exist as confirmed by the Office of the Tenant Advocate. But why should I have to do all that work? Pros: The cleaning staff is friendly, the maintenance guy was great, Gabe is fantastic, and once you're inside your apt it's very quiet Cons: Stress about random, unexplained fees, having to post things like this in order to get action taken, poor communication and a defensive staff member, and zero action when residents break rules about smoking cigarettes and weed in the building

I move in a few days so I’ll be back for a post move-in update BUT so far I’m really impressed by the friendliness & professionalism I receive here at Takoma Central! Sharika is great and so inviting. Keeps such a bright attitude & answers all of my millions of questions with a smile. Move ins are always super stressful so I really appreciate the positive attitude. & the building always looks suuuuper clean.
