Tom at the Phoenix DAV helped me with my appeal back in 2014 but I also had to write my local congressman to open an inquiry against the Phoenix VA. I engaged congress as a dual-pronged approach. This resulted in success but even with the congressional inquiry, it took 5 years for the VA to finally make a decision.

A very good place. they really help the veterans. Great people to talk to. I love them . I love working there. They are better than any organization that I seen.

The Phoenix phone number rolls over to the VA loan center. This has been an issue for about a year. If you do get through, it takes weeks for them to get back to you if ever. It is passed to Las Vegas office, at which time I was given minimal time and information. I asked questions and guidance as I'm not sure if if they need more information for my claim or if we need to appeal because I'm still under a Drs care. They have never gotten back to me. Very disappointed in how they treat service members. Very sad I feel I'm doing this alone and all the work. I've even had to use the VA VSO for more guidance on my difficult case.

Is the american veterans society legitimate

Jim, thanks for the question. It is hard to say with 100% certainty, especially for those organizations that are smaller, or have a shorter history than others. I did not find a group by that name on the Wikipedia link (link 1 below) and it does not appear on the VA's list of registered VSOs on their Form 21-22 (link 2 below). That does not mean it is not legitimate. If money is involved I would ask any organization for their EIN to do a little research to satisfy yourself of their legitimacy. LINK 1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_veterans%27_organizations#United_States LINK 2: https://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-22-ARE.pdf (***** Link 1 is obviously a listing that is crowd sourced, and may not be 100% accurate, and most certainly is not 100% complete. Link 2 (page 3) has a list of Secretary of VA recognized national, regional or local organizations that have accredited service officers. However, this list is also not all-inclusive. *****)

Does DAV have any thrift stores in the Phoenix area? I’ve been to the Oceanside CA Thrift Store on the PCH and love what they do. They thought there was one here. I also have items that I want to donate as I did there, as well as purchases.
