This was a grest place to picnic with the family or friends. It not too big of a place so it wasn't too crowded which was nice

Great spot for families and people just wanting to enjoy nature. Great spot to swim with little to no current

I used to love to walk down by the river because it's so peaceful and serene. But, in recent years, I've noticed that park services has cut down most of the trees and eliminated a lot of plant life near the river. This has made it look like a barren waste land.

No, there isn't legal camping, just day use - parking, boat ramp, restroom, bike trail, hiking. There are some homelessness people that may camp there, right. Generally, I feel safe there, but I wouldn't spend the night
Yes, listen to these folks - I've lived in Sacramento for over 60 years now and grew up swimming in the American River. They only close of the River access for good reasons, usually having to do with safety, commonly associated with high river conditions or upcoming releases. During such times, you should refrain from recreating on the river itself. Of course, you could contact the proper authorities to inquire, too.
