McDonald Woods Forest Preserve

LOVE THIS PLACE! Great for walking with dogs! I can't believe it took me so long to get here. Lake County has the best forest preserves. Anyway, this forest preserve is probably now our very favorite. So many options for trails. Grass, boardwalks, gravel, open plains, around water, in woodsy sections- super awesome. This is truly a hidden gem! Plus there are a few different areas to enter the trail system for when you have older dogs and can't walk the entire length around from the main parking lot.

One of the best trails in Northern IL. Very simple to read maps with distances. Stunning views. A fun wood chip 1 mile trail you can choose to trek through. Very well maintained. Highly suggest!

Love this trial and the woodchip trail that goes off of it also. There's some shade and it's very well maintained.
