South Mountain Park has few "challenges" for experienced hikers but is almost always enjoyable under 105°F .

The park rangers close the incoming gate at 7pm (9pm in summer months), but the exit gate remains open. I have been on the trail until ~11pm before and not had any problems.
Starting g from Baseline and 48th St. Drive South on 48th street, go past the round about and continue onto S Pointe Pkwy E. Keep going till you see 48th St. then make a right at 48th st. Pima Canyon Rd will be on your left. Turn in there and parking lot is at end of that road.
I've seen lizards, chipmunks (Will eat almonds right ot of your hand), birds and coyotes
Yes, but some people don't pick up after their dogs, which is annoying.
City parks are free check out all trails maps and website to see local routes and easy hikes versus moderate and advanced the city also has their website updated with trails and information
It's a 17,000 acre park with a huge network of trails. So, you could hike or bike a 20 minute loop or do an enormous, all day outing. I highly recommend the trailforks app to get an idea of your options. Have fun!
To be precise, the gate opens at 4:50AM.
No fees. Free parking.
The park entrances are usually Dusk to Dawn most of the trails once you're out on it you can go out for a day or two but you might not be able to get in your car cuz it might be towed out of a parking lot if you parked in the city parking lot but the trails are open 24 hours , lots of people hike all day and sometimes overnight hikes through the park... And for exact times it's probably best to Google Phoenix city parks or go to their website not ask random strangers for the most detailed information lol
