A breif aside before the main reveiw: American Classics takes credit cards. I note this because several restaurants in Spencer are cash/check only. American classic is exactly what its name implies, a traditional American diner. The service is fast and friendly while the food is excellent within the American style. I came for breakfast and had perhaps the best chicken fried steak I've ever eaten. The breading was crisp, the sausage gravey rich and flavorful. If you're looking for a great greasy spoon with loads of small town charm, American Classics is for you.

The food was pretty bland. The waitresses were talking loudly the entire time about not waiting for the customers to be finished eating and proceeded to vacuum right next to us because they didn't want to "Be here all day long" and they took our plates basically as we were taking our last bites.........
