The worst bedside manner ever! He doesn't listen and talks right over you. Not a very compassionate doctor

Horrible experience with this doctor. my daughter is 25 and autistic but high functioning We went to Dr. Pekala as he took her insurance and he actually yelled at her when she didnt understand his instructions I was floored . If you have a special needs person you care for do not take to him. In addition, my daughter's rheumatologist tried to get information about the visit and permission was given, and the doctor never returned his call . I took my daughter elsewhere

I was diagnosed by another doctor with need for cataract surgery. He said I had corneal swelling of the my right eye and may need corneal transplant surgery on my right eye which would not be covered by my insurance. My sister recommended Dr Pekala for a second evaluation for my eye surgery and she would not go to anyone else for surgery. He confirmed the diagnosis of cataracts and it was mild Fuchs dystrophy and that Cataract surgery was necessary. Dr. Pekala is very professional, kind and caring. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. Surgery was swiftly arranged two weeks later. He explained the pre and post surgery. Surgery went very well without complications or infection and surgery for the other eye was scheduled 2 weeks later. That surgery also went very well without complications or infection. My insurance paid the entire bill for surgery. My Post surgical follow up found that the Fuchs dystrophy was mild and corneal transplant was not necessary for about 20-30 years. Dr. Pekala is en excellent, dedicated physician and surgeon and I strongly recommend him to my friends & family.

Yes Linda we do. When you come for an appointment we ask that you wear a mask. If you do not have one, one will be provided. We ask that you come into the office alone if possible. When you enter the parking lot, call us on your phone that you arrived. We will then call you in either then or a little later to avoid congestion in the office. Once in the office we will take your temperature with an infrared scanning device. We try to keep social distancing at 6 feet but when we exam you we need to get closer. All equipment is cleaned between patients. I hope this answers your question.
I use phacoemulsification (sound energy) to remove the cataractous lens. This is considered the standard way to remove cataracts. Femtosecond laser can be used to do part of the procedure in removing the cataract but phacoemulsification must also be used. So far femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery has not been shown to be any better than cataract surgery with just phacoemulsification alone even though the procedure with the laser is more expensive and takes longer.
