I was disapointed after a visit with Dr. Kornfeld. When the appointment was made, I had already spoken to the doctor regarding my husband's left peripheral vision defect after a stroke. I told him that I was interested in exploring Rummel prism glasses after having learned about them through internet research. He explained that he would spenf 1 1/2 hours examining my husband and trying different methods to improve his vision. At the appointment, he provided only the telescopic glasses. He did not have prism glasses and said he would have to research them. And the appoinment was only an hour. All in all, I feel it was a waste of $400 out of pocket, our time, and hope of improving my husband's ability to see left of center. The telescopic lenses are for home use only, look rediculous, and are very expensive. They are of no use for my 67 year old husband.

I highly recommend Dr. Kornfeld. He is very thorough, knowledgeable, and caring. I went to Dr. Kornfeld after glaucoma surgery that significantly impacted my eyeglass prescription. With the prescription he determined, I now have excellent visual acuity.

Dr. Kornfeld has been taking care of my eyes for over fourteen years! He has been nothing short of empathetic, caring, and knowledgeable. My entire family chooses him as their optometrist. Highly recommend!

Questions & Answers

Is there anything that can be done for patients with Macular Degeneration?

While medically speaking there is little that can be done to treat macular degeneration. There is a lot that can be done to help the patient use their remaining vision. A low vision doctor focuses on helping the patient use different tools such as telescope glasses, digital magnifiers, and other low vision aids to allow the patient to perform tasks that they otherwise could not due to their vision loss. With the right low vision aids, a patient with macular degeneration may be able to drive again, read, see faces, and use a computer.

Do you do eye exams for patients with Diabetes?

Our practice is a low vision practice. That means that we work with patients with diseases such as diabetes. Usually, the patients we see will already display vision loss from Diabetic Retinopathy. However for patients with diabetes that do not have vision loss, we are able to monitor their vision and help prevent the onset of vision loss.

Do you sell low vision aids?

Yes, as a member of the International Academy Of Low Vision Specialists, we work with the leading providers of low vision aids. A low vision aid is an instrument that helps a person that has low vision perform a specific activity. Examples are computer programs such as zoom text, Escoop glasses that offer slight magnification and contrast, and digital magnifiers such as IrisVision, Orcam, Esight, Humanware. Digital devices that provide real solutions are becoming more and more prevalent, and it is important to speak with a doctor that has the experience to get the best advice.

Our low vision optometrist can help patients with Stargardt disease to maximize their remaining vision. Our optometrist has experience helping patients with Stargardt from Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Elmira, Watertown, and Scranton PA. Patients with Stargardt disease can regain independence with telescope glasses and bioptic telescopes. With the use of Bioptic telescopes, patients have had incredible success getting back behind the wheel with a new license for driving with bioptics.
