We had a great time. I’d recommend tennis shoes because the walk down to the falls is uneven and as others have shared, there is a lot of broken glass. It was free to go see. Not too busy and falls were impressive for being so close to Wichita. Worth the quick drive down.

Super beautiful! The waterfall is worth the hike down, but beware the glass is everywhere!

The trails leading down to the falls are steep and a bit challenging in places. I would not recommend them for people with balance and mobility issues. For those who can actually negotiate the trails down, you will be rewarded with an up close view of the falls. They are nestled back in a small grotto surrounded by trees and large rocks. If you plan on getting up close and personal with the water I suggest having a change of clothes and water shoes handy. It is rather muddy in places and as others have mentioned broken glass can be found all over. Even with its draw backs I would still recommend making the trip and taking the family for a fun time.

This place would hand down get five stars if it was for the tons of trash, broken glass, cans, and rusted metal on the trail to the bottom of the falls. The falls weren't in full flow but it was beautiful with the purple blossoms all around anyway. The lake grounds seem well maintained for the most part (although I just went to visit falls, not fish or camp) except for the bathroom (put toilet) which was in a bad state, and the trail to the falls I already mentioned. The falls themselves make it worth the trip though, just be VERY careful if you're going to take kids down there.

I know it’s a primitive camp area, but are RV’s allowed?

I asked because I’ve never been there, I’m 62, retired, bad back and my days of sleeping on the ground have come to an end. I figure if Boone had had access he would have used one LOL.

My girlfriend and I camped there on the upper level for the night on 07/26/2018 and at 3:00am was awoken by what we believe to be a hog ruffeling through our camp grounds. The hog Nothing was damaged and we weren’t hurt, but just startled.

Is the falls running at this time or when lots of rain?

They are highly dependent on rainfall. They usually are running all year round but not quite in their splendor as they are in the spring.
