As of August 2022 of this year I found myself in need of Mr. Douglas Leiffert’s professional skill and vast knowledge and experience, to mention nothing about his suburb professionalism. Because of the circumstances surrounding my case as well and a very broken heart and shaken emotional mindset as I had lost my only child just a year prior and my fiancé passed away in our home after I had made Mr. Leiffert’s acquaintance. I absolutely knew I had to have an extremely experienced and educated lawyer entirely familiar with Palm Beach County Courts. The extreme compassion he exhibited towards me as well as knowledge and experience were quite a lovely surprise in the midst of a horrible experience. I believe he is a former State Prosecutor for the state of Florida as well. I knew immediately he would go the extra mile for me. Being a Chicago Public School Teacher and having a 30 year retired veteran of the Chicago Police force who actually was a lawyer as well passing both Florida and Illinois bar exam while working gangs full time as a detective in Chicago . We both also experienced 5 years each in Cook County Family Court in Chicago. Chicago as everyone knows is miles away from corrupt. Family Court is on the top of that. Bad judges, divorce attorneys supposedly the “best” in third largest city in USA. Best… read expensive. There is basically no reason to have family court/ lawyers as Illinois is 100 percent joint custody state and any money either spouse has goes directly to lawyers, lawyers who care absolutely nothing about you, your child the situation or what the outcome is. Also they enjoy dragging you back into court 15 years after divorces are finalized to continue to emotionally and financially torment you. Sounds extreme but everything people say about the corruption in Chicago is true. Imagine our complete surprise when we realized we not only had an educated, experienced lawyer but a kind and compassionate one who did care what the outcome was. I wanted to write this review as sadly myself and former fiancé have had a lot of exposure and experience to the highest end divorce attorneys in Chicago and were left terrified of lawyers. I can not recommend Mr. Leiffert enough. During a very scary and traumatic time he was realistic, logical and reassured me continually. I believe at the very beginning when I was in need of legal help my mother found him thru friends and research. My fiancé the retired Chicago Police Officer and lawyer( only worked tiny nonsense cases) told me we had to go to the best regardless of cost. I was in a tricky and scary situation and this is Florida. Mr. Leiffert charges extremely fair and comparative fees. A one time fee! Imagine that! Not charging for a telephone call. He could make billions a week in Chicago. If you are in need of such services, go to the best. Worth every single dime. The cases he represents can have life altering circumstances and nothing should be left to chance. I will refer him highly to anyone who gets in a sticky situation as one does not want to deal with the Police and Court System on one’s own. He resolved my case to the best possible outcome and to just have a lawyer representing me during that horrific time that I knew would not let me go to jail was a great comfort. Do not hesitate to use him and as I despise sounding like a know it all… sadly I do know how really upside the court system can be in the greatest country in the world. Aside from his empathy if you need to, research his credentials absolutely excellent.

I was represented by Mr. Doug Leifert for a careless driving citation. Mr. Leifert was able to get the citation dismissed. Extremely professional and kept me updated regularly. They took care of everything for me which was very convenient because I didn’t miss work and didn’t have to drive an hour and a half away. I recommend Leifert and Leifert to anyone in need of legal counsel.

I had a great experience with the Leifert and Leifert law firm. I received a ticket in Miami and they sent proper emails to keep me updated. Case was dismissed and I could not be any happier. These guys know what they are doing!

Questions & Answers

When should I hire a lawyer for a traffic ticket?

Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021
Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021

When issued a traffic citation, you typically have thirty ( 30 ) days to respond. If you do not respond timely you oftentimes lose the right to challenge it, receive points, fines and a suspension of your driving privileges for not handling it correctly. You should hire an attorney as soon as possible to avoid these penalties and Driver’s License suspensions. An experienced attorney will ensure that all deadlines are met and that you obtain the best possible outcome.

How can I defend myself against a DUI charge?

Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021
Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021

The best way to defend yourself against a DUI charge is to hire an experienced attorney local to your area that is frequently in court handling these matters. DUI’s are often complicated involving many constitutional and scientific issues that are best handled by licensed professionals on your behalf. The police, prosecutors and Judges all are either lawyers or have significant legal training, YOU should not fight or challenge them on your own as you are not on equal footing as them by yourself, especially in Court. You should consult with a lawyer as soon as possible after being arrested, charged or accused of a DUI as it can have lasting consequences to your liberty and lifestyle.

Do the police always need a warrant to conduct a search?

Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021

The police do not always need a warrant to search your person or property. For example, they can search if you consent, if there are exigent ( emergency ) circumstances, incidents to arrest or if they are seizing your property ( towing your car for example ) and need to inventory the vehicle before it is placed in storage. Additionally, police can search your vehicle if a police dog alerts to the presence of illicit substances which would give them probable cause to see what is inside. These are just examples of when a warrant is not necessary.

What is the difference between criminal and civil law?

Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021
Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021

The difference between criminal and civil law is crucial. Criminal law is where the Government is trying to punish you by restricting your freedom and damaging your reputation for any law violation. Civil law seeks remedies for a breach of duty or responsibility where the remedy is typically monetary compensation and/or prevention from behaving or acting in a certain way. The rules are very different as are the burdens on each party. Criminal cases are brought by the Government only, while civil cases can be brought by the Government or most often, by individuals, companies or entities against another person or organization. The burden of proof is much higher in a criminal case ( reasonable doubt ) as it involves your liberty. The burden of proof in a civil case I typically lower ( preponderance of the evidence – think tipping the scale of justice in your favor ) as these cases are usually seeking financial compensation.

What happens at an arraignment?

Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021
Leifert & Leifert | Oct 17, 2021

An Arraignment is a Formal Hearing where the Court formally advises the accused of the charges being brought against them by the Government, inquires whether the Accused/Defendant is going to hire their own lawyer or requests and qualifies for a Public Defender. Additionally, after Hearing the charges formally read and placed on the record, the accused/Defendant is to enter a formal plea, such as Guilty or Not Guilty. Retaining the services of a private attorney prior to this Hearing will obviate the need for it to take place. If hired beforehand, we would typically advise the Court that we are going to represent you, file a Formal plea of Not Guilty and waive this Hearing. This would cancel the hearing and clear you of the obligation to attend. If you do not have your own private Attorney, your appearance is typically mandatory and any failure to appear would likely result in a warrant being issued for your arrest. It is best to hire an attorney and have him/her take care of this Hearing for you prior.
