Fantastic roadside park, just about the best we encountered on all our driving through the UP (and down into Lower Michigan, as well). Obviously there's picnic tables, ample parking, and vault toilets. But most don't have a half-mile hike down to some pretty cool rapids and falls.

One of the best roadside parks in the UP. The waterfall is powerful; the hike alongside the river that feeds it offers a peaceful stroll with tons of flowers, wildlife, well-maintained boardwalks and open vistas. The canyon at the end is dramatic and wholly unexpected.

Sometimes it's those small unexpected surprises that you enjoy and remember the most. This is one of those delightful situations. My wife and I stopped because it was in route to the Porcupine Mountains. I'm so glad we didn't just drive by....what a mistake that would have been. It was a short and easy walk. But it was also visually wonderful. The smells were refreshing and energizing. We wound up spending about an hour in a place that we thought would be a quick pit stop. Pack a lunch and go enjoy all that it has to offer. Your senses will thank you. 😊

The falls are right along Hwy 41 and very easily accessible. The trailhead is located at a roadside park and is approximately a one mile hike to get to the falls. A well maintained scenic trail along the Sturgeon River to a series of rapids and small waterfalls before you reach the impressive Canyon Falls. The river slides nearly 30' over a large chute of smooth black rock into a box canyon. Beautiful, serene and worth the walk. Not a handicap accessible trail.

It's not an official camping spot, but I'm sure if questioned by the police & you said you were so tired you had to pull over you'd be fine, I highly doubt you'd get a ticket. I'd say go for it
Amazing hike back there in winter. Gotta park on road though. Bring your snowshoes
Yes, there are some large parking spots
It is seasonal. The do plow a spot by the entrance where you can park and hike back through the snow.
