Mostly happy with the work. He rebound a book that has been in the family for nearly 100 years, but the pages with tears in them were fixed with - get this - scotch tape. For $100, I would have expected something more. But the torn pages weren't the main issue, the binding was done well and is now strong and will last another 100 years at least.

Absolute magic!!!! My uncle is a pastor and has been using the same Bible for over 40 years. It lived in a carrier because the clumps of pages were no longer linked to each other. It had random stickers in conspicuous places to keep the cover in one piece. The cover and the pages were precariously connected and the spine had reversed curved. BUT Henry did an amazing job of restoration. Look at this!! It’s better than new! It holds its own, it feels solid, he even embossed Holy Bible back on it. The spine is C shaped again and the pages are straight. If you have precious books, you can trust Henry with them (bonus point for the extra fast service he gave me) our whole family is grateful to him!

Amazing service!!! Henry is an absolute sweetheart. I got there at 11 am and by 2 pm he called me to say my job was finished. The quality is great and Henry was super nice and helpful in making decisions. 10/10 recommend.

Over the last 7 years, I have collected hundreds of autographs in the WWE Encyclopedia; unfortunately, the wear and tear of taking it with me to various signings and conventions led to some severe degradation to its front cover, enough where it eventually detached completely. My girlfriend found Henry Bookbinding Co. and offered to get the cover the cover replaced as a holiday present. This place is old school New York, the type of place where magic happens in just a few days. I was able to choose the color of the new cover and the inscription I wanted and, I must say, I’m thrilled that my book is breathing new life. Please come here if you need your books rebounded! This is a treasure of New York City that must be preserved! The price was very reasonable and I would definitely do business with them again.

Questions & Answers

How are the prices to restore a book

Assume any book work will cost at least $50 anywhere. I used his "rebinding" services, not "restoration", which implies a more extensive process dealing with torn pages, stains, etc. But, replacing a bad cover, regluing spine, and page edge trimming are part of rebinding. He's probably less expensive than any other NYC location. I think he would work with a customer on an agreeable price.

My Shul in Long Branch, NJ has several Artscroll Siddurim whose covers are separating from the pages. Does it pay to have them repaired? I think they cost new about $30.00.

It's gonna cost you more to repair them. Unless they're old or have some personal value, just buy new ones.

For Thesis binding, should I bring the printed material or it is ok for me to take the digital file and print it in there?

you will need to take the printed material on the best quality paper. Henry is old school.

How do you get into the place? I see 135 Henry st, but there are no signs?

You have to walk down the stairs below street level

I recently came into possession of my Great Grandfathers Siddur. It needs rebinding plus. What is the best way to handle this? I live in South Florida and have no way to deliver this book personally.

You should call the shop by telephone and see if you can mail it to them. The owner is aware of the Internet, but doesn't use it hinself.

I had a book binder in N.J. Who did beautiful leather bound albums for my grand children. He no longer has some on who can do the work. Ihave the photos and memory letters in chronological order. Happy to send you photos if you can do the work.

Hi Sandy, the owner of Henry Bookbinding doesn't use the internet as far as I can tell. You'll have to call him on the phone and/or go in person.
