At the time of the Revolutionary War, it was a place where General Washington passed on the retreat road after being pushed by the British army. At that time, it was also a farm and a water mill. Here you can see a stone building and a bridge used as a military residence. Steuban was active at the time. Now, as it was left unattended 200 years ago, there is a bulletin board saying that they are accepting donations for the restoration project. There is already a list of donors.

The Steuben house and the two other houses are open for weekend events. The Steuben house is also open once or twice a month for evening lectures or programs. Check the Bergen County Historical Society website for a calendar of events.
