A nice green open park downtown with a lot of amazing sculptures to look at. There are some man made hill/ berms that are fun to walk up and enjoy the view. Great work on Des Moines for funding the arts and incorporating into a public park.

Awesome park for people to enjoy some cool sculptures. Free admission, street parking all around the park for a small fee. The park is not very big but well maintained by the city. Some people complained in the reviews that all the sculptures are metals and plastics. It kinda has to be because the sculptures are outdoor and the materials has to be able to withstand the test of time. All the sculptures looks pretty new and it’s free to enjoy. The only thing that did bothered me was the amounts of homeless people walking and hanging around the park. I was alone at 9:30am and didn’t feel safe. When I got closed to the girl sculpture by one corner of the park; one homeless guy was yelling “it wasn’t me” repeatedly to me. I was a bit freaked out because there wasn’t anyone else close by at the moment. There was a few people on the other side of the park and some passing by cars though. Overall, I did enjoyed my visit at the sculpture park. I would highly recommend not going there alone if you are a woman.

We stopped in on our road trip and were lucky enough that the art festival was going on the same weekend. We had such an awesome time, we spent most of the day there. The sculpture park is awesome. Def recommended.

Loved this park! We went during the day and rode our scooters around the park and surrounding blocks. The sculptures were neat, park was clean and spacious. We didn't feel cramped at all even though there were quite a few visitors while we were there. There is a ton of benches and seating all around. Parking meters all along the outside and parking is free on Sundays. People were even laying on blankets and having a picnic. Really neat place!! No bathrooms, but there was a port-a-potty around the corner.

Not in the park as this is an open air park with sculptures. Beautiful area and great place to enjoy in the summer.
My fav would be Peyton!
Yes, but there are a lot of people who want to pet them. So if they're nervous dogs, be sure to keep watch on them.
Yes and it gives you a different perspective of the sculptures at night v. day. Well worth a 2nd trip at night for it!
I am unaware of an actual parking lot near the sculpture park but there is street parking all around. You do need to pay the meters Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. I believe.
Hard to find their ages but John graduated from U of I in 1952 so say 22 and park was built in 2009 so I'd guess he was 79 give or take at the time the park went public.
It has been open to the public since September 2009.
Other than the Brenten skating rink, I've never seen any sculptures. Pappajohn's Sculptures is a permanent art park all year round. Very enjoyable no matter when you see tbem.
