Indianola Veterinarian Clinic was by far the worst experience that I have ever had with my dog Lola.I recently took her there because she was not eating and was getting steadily weaker.First thing I was asked was how much I had to spend,in which I replied $200 dollars.Next I was told that blood work was needed.I then was told that Lola was bleeding internally but nothing else that would be causing this. After giving her a shot,in which was told that she should be better by the next day and if she wasn't I should take her to a different veterinary clinic.I was then charged $440 dollars, more than double what I had told them that I could afford.I paid it with a credit card in hopes that I somehow would be able to pay it, in which I could not understand why they even bother asking what I could afford.I paid it reluctantly and took Lola home. One hour after I get Lola home see is so weak she couldn't even raise her head and in much pain.I take her to another Vet. Clinic where in less than 10 minutes they had diagnosed with Septic and her chances of living were slim. She at this point was in so much pain that I couldn't see putting her through any more and the decision was made to have her put to rest. This was one of the hardest thing I have ever had to do.I don't know for sure if she would have been diagnosed properly by the Indianola Veterinarian Clinic that there might have been a chance that she would be alive today. After my true companion died I tried to contact someone in charge at the clinic to share the ordeal and try to understand why I could have been charged more than double what I stated I could afford, and for the worst service by a so called professional that couldn't even tell me what was wrong with my dogI sincerely do believe that the Indianola Veterinarian Clinic was the worst service that I have ever had and I will never again take any animal to them again.

Questions & Answers

How are the prices?

I have been going to indianola vet clinic for 34 years. I never felt the need to compare prices because they have taken great care of our 8 dogs and one bunny. They have referred us for care when something unusual has occurred and they feel special treatment or tests may be necessary that they could not provide. I appreciated that!

We do not work with reptiles. You could try Oaks Veterinary Clinic or Avondale VCA. Thank you!

We do not groom unless it is a medical necessity, such as a dog or cat that needs sedated due to severe matting hair.

Can't help, haven't needed that recently, but i know they would be comparable with metro prices

My pups anal glands are swollen and red. It does not seem to bother him too much. I’m sure it’s a food allergy as I changed foods last month. Is this something I can give it a minute, or do I need to call on a Sunday?

This is something that can wait until Monday morning as we are only available for emergencies. You can give a little Aspirin and ice the area. Sometimes a little hydrocortisone cream helps too.

Why do they close on sundays

Damien Green | Oct 17, 2018
Lisa Youngblut | Oct 17, 2018

I would assume that it would not be cost effective to be open on Sundays. We have needed them for an emergency when they were closed, and the on call vetrinarian got back to us promptly.

Why are you closed on sunday

I would think it’s because they are still small town Iowa. That’s what I love... If you need them they will be there. I’m never sure if it’s something that needs emergency care.
