The kids had a wonderful time. You buy bags of sand, there are different sizes/contents, and the sift them in a trough with running water. Then, bag up your treasures. You get an info card with pictures to help identify what you've found. Some of the specimens were small and not much of high quality but fun.

@Copperhead Creek Gem Mine in regards to your response, I did say something to the lady that was running the store that day because we bought two of the Motherload bags. We always do one there and take the other one home for another day of fun. The lady that was working said they come already packaged. That was it. No apology, no offer to make things right. So we haven’t been back since. I do appreciate your offer. If we go back I will be sure to show them the offer you wrote on here. Thank you. Update for 2022…The amount of gems/rocks and fossils you get have decreased drastically!!! Not even half of what it was when I originally wrote this review (we didn’t even fill up half a clear bag that they give you with the largest bag, including the big gem). Very disappointing, especially for the price. We had a blast mining for gems, there were so many in the bag!!! We bought three more bags to take home because it was such fun!! Fun for all ages! They even customizes stone boxes to your personal needs such as luck, money, love, etc. Great place and they have beautiful gifts of all prices!

I did see alot of dogs on leashes in town. The gem mining is outside so I would say yes

Just walk in the building and buy which bag you'd like

How does this work? You buy an empty bag and then fill it with what you find? Do they "salt" the slurry or are these coming directly from the mine?

It's a bag of either gems or fossils that are mixed with sand and dirt. Dump a small portion at a time, into the sifter and use the running water in the canal to wash away the debris, revealing the gems or fossils.

Is this a state park? I know that sounds stupid tee hee hee hee! I have never seen this place .Looks interesting. DOES it cost anything to get in?

No, it is a small shop in the middle of town. It is a nice shop with lots of variety.

Is there gold in the mix? And if there is you must be profiting off of it when people wash the gems off. I’ll take my bags home.

No there wasn't gold in our gem bags. Nothing is advertised there for gold in the gem bags.

When is the best time of year to come

It's an outdoor activity, so I would say any time it's warm. In Indiana, that's April to September, give or take a month.
