I have to rate it a 5. I know I was not the only one to ever go there, especially before they built the overlook and closed off the cliff face. Before they excavated the road and made it completely flat, when it actually took effort to drive in there, and I wondered if I would ever get back out with my rear wheel drive truck. The road was so bad. But I would go in there and sit for hours on end.. It was very rare to ever see anyone in there. At least for me anyways. I won't ever forget it.

Can you get there in a Subaru Outback. Not a lot of clearance but all wheel drive.
They are open middle of March until mid May and mid September until early January
When I checked with SCDNR last year, Horse Pasture Rd., which takes you directly to Jumping Off Rock, is open year round if you gain access via the Laurel Valley Entrance off Hwy 178. It is the only "green" colored road on the official SCDNR Gorges map that indicates that it's open year round. I wish I could attach the map, but go to SCDNR website to get the exact open and closing dates of the secondary red-gated roads. Hope this helps!
There arent camping spots up top with views thst are as amazing but there are sites with good views. Besides that there are some there at the end of Bootleg Rd that are by the water that are gorgeous. But if you take care when driving up the trail you should be able to spot the campsites, there is usually a place to park near them. Near the trailhead there are some signs with some rules about specifically where you can camp, I would check there for specifics on if you can camp near the top. Part of the forest at the top is not supposed to be entered due to peregrine falcons nesting there. Hope that helps!
It's a dusty steep climb with curves and hills galore...I'd want an e-bike! The view is awesome once you hike up to the overlook!
Can you ride up to jumping rock and actually camp somewhere with a tent somewhere on top? A fire and all?
