By NY state park standards, dogs are not supposed to be in beach or picnic areas. They are only allowed on the dirt trails, such as the dog path behind field 5. However, most likely you will not get reprimanded if your dog is leashed while you are on the beach

Not sure but you can call or email to find out. I inquired and the scheduled opening was July 4th week but, due to the rains we've been having, construction is behind. Probably more like August....

You need the Empire Pass on weekends, otherwise I believe it is free. It's a wonderful place, not a lot of people. No services to speak of.

Camping is great not too sure about the cutoffs but they have a calendar where u can pick your dates and that should tell you.

There is a $10 parking fee. But they stop charging around 5pn. The NYS usually stop charging around Sept 18 for rest of year. Look into getting an NYS Empire Pass for the state parks and beaches. It is $85 a year and is unlimited use for all NYS parks. The a Pass is usually on sale in December for $65. It is also available as an App.

I cycle there on the bike path. There are no restrictions of any kind nor need to show permits. We need to become more physically fit like in Norway. Then the government can deposit those unused permits in an uncomfortable place. We give up too many freedoms on Long Island. Let's send the regulators to the unemployment line.

Heckscher State park does not allow any night visitors into the park. However, a star gazing permit does exist. I am uncertain of which state parks accept the permit, but I would recommend to try calling Sunken Meadow and Jones Beach, as those two parks seem likely to allow star gazers entry after dark
