Having visited other foreign Grand Lodges, I note that the welcome reserved for me this day May 4, 2022 at 10 a.m. by the "porter" is the worst I have ever received; even in the smallest New York stores the staff is more personable. Asking for a tour we were properly "thrown out" by this individual who told us that we had to register on the site a week in advance to get a guide, that he did not manage guides and did not know when he there would be a visit, that the museum was no longer accessible and that this was true for everyone, whether you were Freemasons or not! It is obvious that it is not the substance of this information that was shocking, but the contempt with which we were dismissed by the one whose peace of mind we were visibly disturbing. Contempt coupled with a relative aggressiveness in the face of our incomprehension of such a contemptuous reception. The Grand Lodge of New York/Masonic Hall therefore deserves the palm of the worst Masonic reception compared to France, England or Scotland; it is distressing! What a deplorable image of Freemasonry...

It depends on what you are searching for. Want to become a better man? Freemasonry provides the tools to do such work. Want to feel a part of tradition? Freemasonry has a long history. Want to feel a part of a Brotherhood? Freemasonry can provide those experiences. For me, I wanted to work with like minded people to leave a legacy of loving work for the world to be inspired by.

You MUST live in the jurisdiction where you are petitioning. For example, if you lived in Hoboken and are not currently a Mason, then you might consider petitioning a NJ lodge and then affiliating with the NYC lodge/Grand Lodge of NY once you are a Master Mason. Otherwise you might find it difficult to fulfill your obligations to learning in the beginning if you're unable to show up routinely.

All tours are free and open to the public. Walk in the 23rd street side and ask for a tour. I believe Monday-Friday 10am-5pm. Don't quote me on that. Midday should be fine. Full tour can take upwards of 2 hours(including library and all rooms).
