Like most state forest campgrounds throughout state, DeTour was very secluded. But probably even more secluded than many others. This area of the state is not real well known and this campground certainly does not jump out at you. Probably for the better though. It's one of those camprounds that you give a low rating to so it discourages flocks of people from going and ruining it. What really makes this campground desirable is having Lake Huron just a few yards away from you. The lake is so clean and refreshing. This campground would be good to go to when it's super hot out because the water is quite cold, in comparison to the other side of the bridge in Lake Michigan. When I camped here though, the bugs were terrible. Thankfully there were no deer flies. But the mosquitoes and black flies still ruined the experience for me. As a reference, it was early July when the bugs were this bad. Setting up our camping gear was not an easy task either. Many of the sites near the lake had a more sandy ground without a lot of dirt or grass. So staking down our tent and canopy became somewhat of a challenge. The vaults to use the bathroom were not that clean either as they smelt quite bad. The DNR, park rangers and people that maintain the campgrounds may not make it to this park too frequently as it is right in the middle of a very remote location. It was also in the summer of 2020, so the staff may have been very short. Overall, this is a very nice park. Things may not always work out smoothly though depending on when you go and where you set up.

Great secluded!!!!!! Awesome views from the beach. We have stayed here twice in 2021, second time extended stay. Highly recommend one of the best boondocking spots in the UP. One water hand pump and i think 3 or 4 vault toilets. Large campsites, entrance back a long dirt road, there is a walking trail along the dirt road to the other side of the peninsula.

The nicest small rustic campground around. It has one of the nicest white, crescent sand beaches around!

Perfect. Quiet and peaceful. Only about half of the campsites were full the night I was there. The sites are level and most had a good barrier of trees. My site had a trail to the beach where I sat and watched the sunset and a million stars come out. Beautiful spot

Yes mainly kayaks and canoeing. Maybe a small fishing boat if you want to risk backing it in with no official boat launch
We have a 22' trailer and we were lucky to find a spot. Very tight quarters all the way around.
Yes, there are marked hiking trails that go to multiple beaches.
