Can’t say enough bad things about this place-or enough good ones about Anicira in Harrisonburg.

Prices are absolutely ridiculous. My elderly father in law with Alzheimer’s has been in the hospital for a week now. His and my mother in laws dog got out and was taken to the SPCA. We find out the next day and guess who now owes the SPCA $150? Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

Remember that the SPCA is not the pound or shelter for Augusta any more. They don't have to take anything. The pound is in Lynhurst. Folks there are really nice.
Yes, we've had our dog spayed and our cat neutered. The people are knowledge, helpful and friendly.
Animal control for your jurisdiction
You just have to go in with your dog, fill out the relinquishment paperwork and give them all of the information on your dog to the best of your ability, i.e. shot records, bite history, if any, and the age and then you will be able to surrender your animal. The main thing would be to call ahead and make sure there is room in the shelter before you come out.
They should have emergency number. Didnt they tell you when to pick up?
After a couple months they need there first rabies shot. That's good for one year. Then after a year they get there 3 year shot. Then every 3 years after that.
Of animals that are surrendered, not bulletin, but Augusta county does, and local cities, checkout Facebook.
They do have a Animal control truck for Augusta county that could probably provide the help that you're looking for, I would call the ASPCA tomorrow and get their phone number and talk with someone there. D.S.
Right now they have boxer pups and German Shepard pups
They do have monthly clinics for shots. Call and see when next one is. You can also check Tractor supply for the same closer to uva
Dogs are $75 and you have to have their rabies shot up to date. If not, they'll do the shot for you. I believe that was only $15 more and well worth it. The care my dog received was the best. They really do love these animals.
You will need to call them directly for that question.
Not a vet either but like any hospital, they prevent contamination every day. FIV test is available there. Felv/fiv/heartworm test is 30. Fiv is no joke. An ounce of prevention won't cure it, but maybe save others it comes in contact with. I been guilty too, not judging.
Unfortunately MOST potential adopters are looking for small dogs like chihuahuas. They are hard to find through normal adoption procedures. The best thing you can do is register with the spca and tell them what you are looking for so that if one becomes available you may have a chance to adopt. Most spca's have smaller dogs- especially chihuahuas- in foster homes instead of in the kennels because the noise, confusion and cold are bad for them. Another way to look for a chihuahua to adopt is through rescue organizations. Try googling chihuahua rescues. Lastly, if you are looking for a chihuahua to breed you need to find aREPUTABLE breeder. Spca and most rescue organizations spay and neuter or require you to.
Call animal control
This is a question best answered by someone that works there and sees first-hand. I have never worked there. Going only on general personal knowledge, I would agree that most people only want kittens or puppies. Some people prefer pets that are two it three years old. Older pets do get adopted, but it is a smaller pool of people that will adopt an older pet. I'm assuming not every pet will find a home, but they do their very best to do so.
I don't know. But beware of"backyard breeders". You really need to go talk to a vet and he/she can steer you towards legitimate breeders with healthy pups. I love Poms. But you sure don't want to spend money on an unhealthy pup! You'll spend a lot more at the Doctor's!
