We have tried to place mail holds to stop delivery when we are out of town. Consistently, they deliver our mail anyway. Once we had a temporary hold that clearly stated it was for 30 days and then mail delivery to resume. At the end of 30 days they decided that we'd moved and all mail was marked "return to sender; no forwarding address." I to go to my US House of Representatives constituent rep to get that one fixed. No one ever answers the phone. Going in person (as I did twice when our mail was being returned) is useless as the manager is either not available or has no answers

Questions & Answers

My mail person leaves my packages on my steps in a non secure location. Several packages have been stolen. Can I have my packages left at the post office for me to pick up? If so how can I do that?

Go to your local post office. Speak with Management and express the issue. Unfortunately the packages have to be delivered unless there's a signature attached. I hope this helps.

it's always been that way, sorry

For reasons never explained, our carrier refuses to accept outgoing letters from our six-unit apartment building. When we asked the reason, she told us we could take our letters to a collection box a block away. Why are we denied service?

If the carrier doesn't have mail for you on that particular day, he or she is not required to take your outgoing letter mail. In an apartment the carrier should take your mail if it is easy for him to take and doesn't delay him from his job.

Patricia, they have hired a lot of young mail carriers that are of the "Entitlement Generation". They feel they are entitled to do what they want with your mail and there is nothing you can do about it. The new carrier on my route is very rude, arrogant, dishonest and DISRESPECTFUL. I would suggest if you have problems with your mail; document it and make formal complaints with the Supervisor, Manager and Postmaster General. Once you have notified them they are legally bound to address and resolve the issue, by the Federal Court of law.
