I surprised my husband with a massage and facial at the Essential Body Bar for his birthday. My husband and I have been to many spas in the Houston area and I decided to give this place a try because it is black owned. When he arrived he informed me that the ambiance was not spa like quality. The masseuse did not have him feel out any paperwork which is very odd. The masseuse was a small whit woman (which is fine) but the massage was very mediocre; still had tension and no relaxation. Then he was supposed to have a facial. The facial he received was a just a mask that burned his face. No cleansing, no extraction, nothing. I want to support black businesses but I still expect quality service. I have not problem paying for quality but what I paid for and received was HORRIBLE.

My first visit: Overall, the massage was great but the environment was odd and lacking basic customer service. My appointment was on a Saturday but no one was at the front desk. No one ever came to greet me. I wasn't sure if the spa was open for business. I arrived 15-20 minutes early because I thought I would have to complete an intake form. I heard voices so I assumed someone was around so I waited in the lobby. After 20 minutes, a massage therapist walking her client out said hello and it turned out that I was her next appointment. She actually did an amazing job. However, the odd atmosphere was far from relaxing. I also personally don't like being asked to tip directly to cash app. I'd much rather tip with my original form of payment. Customers shouldn't be asked to tip by the massage therapist. It's too awkward for the therapist and client. I tried to purchase another item on my way out but my therapist couldn't find a price list and wasn't able to sell me the item.

Had my very first facial here and I’m happy to say that I had a wonderful experience. Everything was great, from the very moment I walked in. I will definitely be back.
