Now this place is amazing it helps homeless women and children and men it will help women in shelters get their own Apts or home's they have classes that you have to go to different every day they are open frome 8am til 4pm . It will help you get your get or go back too school it helps with starting your own business or writing a Book . If you are homeless with a mental illness this is the place for help

The faculty there could care less about the women that depend upon them. You come to them in state of brokenness, and their mission is to keep you there. The only thing cared about at Sojourner Truth House is whether you attend group sessions, and how many donations they can collect. The case managers (Pam Key and others) are indifferent to the the struggles of their clients, and have a serious lack of empathy. They dangle the promise of helping with furniture and housing, but the time you could be using in search of employment, or housing must be spent in useless group sessions to receive someone else’s hand me down furniture and/or no housing.

Go to a shelter and go to sojourner truth and call Catholic charities gateway in that order
Sojourner Truth House is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the Food Pantry. 1st session is 9am-11am for the first 60 people. 2nd session is 1pm-2pm for the first 30 people. For food you need to have a valid ID and show proof that you are a Gary resident. If you would like to receive clothing for women and/or personal care items you must also show proof of income for the last 30 days and proof of household members if more than 1 in the household.
In order to qualify for assistance through the food pantry and clothes closet you must be a Gary resident with proof of residency. Food is available once a month. Clothing and personal items are available once every three months and require documentation for each member of the household. In order to be a client of the day center, you have to be homeless and housed at one of four local shelters. For information you should call them at 885-2282.
You can receive pantry staples from the food pantry once a month if you live in Gary and have proof of residency. You can also receive toiletries and household items every 90 days once you qualify as a client. However, you have to be homeless and reside in one of the four local shelters that they serve and satisfactorily complete classes and other program requirements in order to receive furniture when you are securely housed.
