Got our sweet baby girl Daphne here a little over 3 months ago and it’s been nothing short of perfection since. The adoption process was very easy, very grateful to have found our girl and give her her forever home 😊

Adopted my wonderful cat here. Everyone was so helpful and kind.

Dirty and way to expensive for the pound. I think they would rather kill the animal then making it easier to give them back to the owner. Forcing you to get vaccinations and shots over $100 for the first offense this is crazy this place should be shut down

Whoever runs the front desk has a rude attitude. You have to call multiple times to get them to even answer the phone. When they do answer, they will begin the conversation politely but the attitude starts as soon as the greeting is over. I completely understand having bad days, but giving attitude to people over the phone is not the way to handle it. Plus their field duty staff can’t seem to find a dead possum in the MIDDLE of the road. You can smell it when driving by it so I don’t really understand not being able to locate it. 3-4 days to handle a dead possum. At this point I should have just put some gloves on and threw it in the dumpster.

You need to bring a picture of your lost pet to the Shelter
Yes, they do. Plano Animal shelter is kitty friendly.
Just type the microchip number into this website's box and it'll tell you the company, website, and how to contact them! http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org
If aye and neighborhoods, you just have to go to visit the shelter and look for a special one for you and your family
They don’t set free traps, but they’ll service traps you set. There’s ordinances and rules about trap setting (like providing water in it, checking it regularly, and not setting during inclement weather). You call them when you’ve trapped the animal, an officer will come and then release it at the nearest nature preserve. Id research trapping first though - it’s not effective for wildlife control. The opossum is really good for the area too! Eats lots of nasty pests!
Generally, no. You must pay the full balance before taking your pet home. Try talking to an animal control officer to see if you can work something out. It never hurts to ask.
They do medical care for their homeless animals or intakes but don’t provide services to the general public! They have links on their website to some low-cost clinics in the area. I know TCAP borrows part of Plano’s facility on the 3rd Friday of every month and does low-cost vaccines for the public. Check out TCAP’s website!
Not to volunteer in shelter. You have to be 18+. There are other ways you can volunteer outside of shelter
Yes you can as long as you live in Plano. I believe it's $10
Definitely! They have free leashes and collars for adopters at the front so im sure they do!
Yes, they accept owner surrenders. Go to the Lost & Found / Surgery doors on the left side of the building.
You can use moist or hard kitten food. They need a litter box. I usually use clumping litter until they are a little older. They need vaccinations and possible deworming. They sleep alot so a nice warm cushy place to sleep. I check for fleas and shampoo with a little dawn soap to get rid of them. Keep them indoors so they don't get eaten. Get them fixed once they are old enough and big enough. Spend time socializing them and getting used to being touched. Use a soft brush to groom.
That would be a dog border service
I have no idea I didn't find the pet I was looking for and they never answer my calls.
Not that I'm aware of the receptionist wasn't much help at all either
Best to call and ask.
They do not have free dogs, all have adoption fees unless they're running an advertised special. They do offer a discounted fee for some pets, I would suggest going in and chatting with an employee for more information regarding the exact pet you're looking for.
If you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian as you must sign a contract.
Or they have paper copies on hand at the front counter
Hi there! Plano Animal Services 100% helps with injured critters of all kinds, and treats it as an emergency priority call, so they will run that even after hours – they have an on-call officer on duty at all times (so if you come across injured wildlife at 1am, they’ll still help). They don’t interfere with birds that are simply “pesky” or people want removed for no good reason because most bird species are federally protected, but if they are injured or in need of assistance, that’s what animal services is there for :)
There is obviously an irritation. Puppy could be in pain, infection, abscess, nails could be growing into skin. This is a situation for a vet. Hope you can get your baby to the vet soon
Very sorry to hear this. Plano Animal services can help you. Thank you for your service.
https://www.plano.gov/232/Euthanasia-Cremation-Services All euthanasia is performed by injection by trained staff members and the remains are then cremated. We request that residents bring their animal into the shelter but exceptions can be made for elderly and/or handicapped residents or special circumstances. A separate pick-up fee of $20 may be charged if this service is necessary. Plano residents can bring their pets to the shelter for euthanasia Tuesdays - Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. What you need to know: There is a $25 fee to provide this service. The owner will sign an owner request for euthanasia form. We do not provide this service on Saturdays or Sundays unless special circumstances require it. Owners cannot be present during this procedure and remains cannot be returned.
I have found my dog who died this morning. I tried calling around a few places but no one is available to help me including my vet because they are on vacation for ThanksGiving. What do I do?
You can see what animals are available for adoption by going to their website. Www.plano.gov/animal
This is not a vet. Please find a local veterinarian.
Yes! They are always in need of clean bedding - they go through that stuff so quickly haha. Thanks for thinking of them! 😊
I imagine with the 200+ animals in the building and new ones coming in every 10-15 minutes, they aren’t able to bathe adopted pets. Im sure they’d love to bathe each and every animal that comes into their care, but it’s just a realistic matter of time and resources and staffing! They have SO much on their plates, I imagine!
Call Plano Animal Shelter....they should be able to get someone out there to pick up the cat
Great response Lauren Haigh!
Yes! Call and ask for the contact info of their community service liaison.
Yes! Every adopted animal will walk out the door spayed or neutered! Yay😍
Breed rescues can help with rehoming by posting information about your pet with breed interested parties. If you must surrender, please don’t without calling rescue groups first...your pet’s life may depend on it.
They do have pets for adoptions but im not sure if they have them for specific events
You can either keep the dog with you and bring it to the shelter in the morning OR you can take it to the Custer Road Emergency Animal Hospital (open 24hrs) and they can hold it and then they call animal services in the morning to pick it up! They’re at 10225 Custer Rd, Plano, TX.
I know this was awhile ago, but for future reference: animal services always has an on-call Officer on duty for all hours of the night. They respond to emergency calls like injured animals or loose aggressive dogs, etc. To reach them, you call non-emergency Plano Police and they’ll get you connected with the Animal Services Officer on duty.
Animal Services needs to be contacted for pick up. I just received this question alert, so not sure if you have already resolved the situation?
