The job coaches are amazing at Grant A Gift! They all work really hard and try to build rapport with all of the students.

There are so many families out there waiting for help, and there are only so many experts able to help and only so many hours in a day. We too had a long wait, and I understand and sympathize with the desperation and frustration felt by families who hear "early intervention is key" as the months go by. Now that we've finally been seen, my prayer now is that more incredible people like Dr. Gaspar de Alba choose to pursue careers to help our children (and reduce that wait!). We were incredibly skeptical that anyone would truly be able to diagnose our son in one short visit. Without any meltdowns, tantrums, or extreme behaviors (which we wrongly assumed would be required for a diagnosis), Dr. G was able to elicit the most nuanced behaviors that us parents weren't even able to recognize. The evaluation was quick, informative, and actually kind've fun! He spoke with such kindness, empathy, and genuine concern. We emerged from the center with advice, a diagnosis, and referrals for various therapies. And most of all, hope. Thank you, Dr. Gaspar de Alba and Ackerman for what you do.

Questions & Answers

A UNLV professor thinks it's acceptable to make fun of autistic people/grieving parents (see my Google review of this place for context). How can I be sure I will be treated with respect by staff when UNLV employs such an unprofessional individual?

I've been going to the Ackerman center for two years and never had that issue. They may be hard to get into, understaffed, aren't easy to contact but all in all I haven't had an uncomfortable or inappropriate remarks or issues with the staff.
