My friend and I camped here for 1 night in early September 2021. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would like to have stayed longer but we had to stay on schedule for reservations made farther west. The campground is beautiful. The spot where we put up our tent was grassy, clean, and didn't show wear and tear that most campgrounds exhibit. We liked the water there. It was quiet and we felt quite safe. A huge plus of the park was that it was open late, and we were able to enter and obtain a campsite. We missed using a reservation we had made in one of the Iowa state parks because they closed their gates and there was no way to enter. But Kent Park helped to give us a very pleasurable leg of our trip through Iowa. I would gladly stay there again and recommend it to anyone who seeks a rewarding camping experience.

Been here camping 2 days now and have a beginning sense of the layout, trails etc. Good clean quiet place to camp and try to teach "younguns" how to fish. Lots of families, many with dogs. Road layout in the park is confusing at first but just takes a little driving around to learn the ropes. Camping layout for tents and trailers is fine. The lake is quite nice, with a walking or bicycle path all the way around and nicely landscaped. Interesting how they incorporated old rural bridges into the walking route. I will be back. One negative. It is hard to see the parking entrance while driving on US 6.

Had great event, free fishing day. They furnished fishing gear and bait. The Rangers were very helpful. Thanks for service you give to the community.

We love Kent park! Such a great place to hike and explore. The large pond has a wonderful, nicely kept trail around it and there are great picnic areas and a lovely education center. This is definitely a place to enjoy just outside of Iowa City!

Yes. But pay attention to where the towers are. The bottom of the loops don't seem to have much coverage.
Yes
Yes they have 30/50 amp service! $20 a night!
Yes we are open and our webpage has just changed. We have both electricty and water at Kent Park.
Bluebirds boxes are along rhe main roadway.
Generally the campground opens around mid-April.
The campsites all have fire pits. Not sure about other areas of the park.
Yes the beach area is open, but no swimming is currently allowed.
Kent Park is open, but the campground remains closed as of August 18.
No it will not be open. Staff is attempting to get enough cleaned up from the storm to possibly have portions of the park accessible to the public this weekend.
Quiet time starts at 10, gates close at 10:30, campsites are open, I was there a couple weeks ago. There isn't a lot of road to drive on after gates close though. Idk if this helps or not.
The campground generally opens in Mid-April. The park itself is open year round
There haven't been any public reports to that effect. Contact the Johnson County Conservation Department with further questions
The campground closed during the winter. It opens mid-April and closes in the fall (Oct)
I agree John Hills.. Your best bet is to call and see. I was there about 2 months ago and the Lake was still under reconstruction. Call them first before u head there.
Yep!👍
Should be now. Saw in a previous question someone said it was close. That was before all this rain.
No, you have to pay. Electric hookups available. Well worth it!
No
For sure you have to reserve, especially if you want the electricity. I am assuming that there is a fee. Make sure to call about a week or so ahead of time to make sure you get a spot!
Anything is open, if you try hard enough.
They are working on it now. Hopefully by the end of this summer, the lake shall be refilled.
Bruce - the lake will begin filling late this spring or early summer if all work can be completed as scheduled. It may fill this summer to allow swimming but that will be weather dependant.
Last time we camped there we showed up 5 min past close and the DNR blocked off the road just to tell us that we were late and chewed us out...i would suggest another camping place because the DNR don't make it a "warm welcome" place
It is first come, first served. It is rarely anywhere near full. They are working on lake renovation; some of the work crew stay there. It shouldn't be a problem.
No
No cabins at kent. But lake iowa has built some new ones in the last 2 years. Plus great bass fishing.
My understanding Kent park drained the lake to be able to dredge it out. They are working on retention ponds surrounding the lake and will be redoing the boat ramp and park lot area. I'm sure it is disappointing to come to Kent Park expecting something different now. It will be so nice and even better than before when complete. I love walking the trails, seeing nature and having a picnic, you can even geocache. I hope this helps and make sure you visit again after it's complete.
