I always enjoy my visits to Round Valley Recreation Area. There are so many different things to do that I sometimes have a problem narrowing it down to what I want to do.
On this visit I settled for a long walk along the beach area. Then I sat at the far end of the beach and listened to podcasts while I watched the birds.
I recommend Round Valley Recreation Area. I hope you enjoy your visit there. This is an excellent place to visit anytime of the year.

I remember this place from 10+ years ago but sadly it wasn’t the same in my last visit.

One and only one close by to people living around 22 West. It’s our favorite go to place for long walks and great time by the water.

Questions & Answers
I will like to go camping some days I’m this week. Is the park open? How much do you pay. And what’s allowed to bring inside?
Yes i was there Saturday but they closed earlier than usual, testing of the water showed bacteria higher than normal. So they stayed closed Sunday but will reopen, after more testing. i guess extra bacteria came from the storms we had last week.
Hello, thank you for your question. Boat rentals are not available at Round Valley. You are welcome to go to Spruce Run Recreation Area for rentable kayaks (during the summer season, Memorial Day - Labor Day) or to Cheesequake State Park for kayak eco-tours.
Hello, thank you for your question. For the most timely response we recommend calling the park office at 908-236-6355. The campgrounds at Round Valley are wilderness with no drive-in access, they are on the far side of the reservoir and accessible by bringing your own boat or by backpacking 3-6 miles over the Cushetunk Mountain.
In August, the park is open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. to 8:00 p.m. m. The swim is only open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. m. to 5:30 p.m. m. If the park fills up to capacity, it will close. [Translated by Google]
The lifeguarded swimming beach is open during the summer season: Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. to 5:30 p.m. m. The swimming is closed on Monday and Tuesday. [Translated by Google]

The swimming area is the only area of the park which does not allow dogs. Dogs are welcome anywhere else as long as they are wearing a leash 6 feet long or shorter.

Round Valley has wilderness camping only: 3-6 miles mountain hiking. For drive-in camping go to Spruce Run Recreation Area.
Just camping in the wild. 3-6 mile mountain hike. For drive-ins go to https://www.njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors/Park/Details?locationId=12

Yes. You can fish. I've seen fishers on the side paths by the boat entrance. Not sure how much you'll catch though as it is a reservoir.
how much is the fee per person? and how much would parking be?
The campsite very good, big, peaceful.
Big enough parking lot.
But there are not too many big trees, if you are particularly looking for that. There are enough bushes or small trees, all in all shadows will be there if you are there is morning times, but not exactly woody area
Hi,
Where do you park for paddle boarding
In the beach area or another place? Are there any rules for paddle boarding? How much is the fee for the day?
Thanks

The fee is $5 per car for NJ residents. $10 for nonresidents. There are large parking lots adjacent to the beach. But I don't think they allow paddle boards. I know they don't allow balls, because I saw them enforce that.
Swimming is permitted at Round Valley in the Day-use Area only from Memorial Day through Labor Day from 10 am to 6 pm, while lifeguards are on duty. Swimming is not allowed in the main reservoir.
Bears are common in wooded areas in NJ. And, can pose a danger if you're not prepared. Consider the example when a black bear killed a 22 year old college student via Apshawa reserve NJ in 2014. They hiked and were warned by others that a bear was spotted and to avoid the path. Instead, the students thought it would be cool to pursue it to take selfies with bear. Well, the bear killed one hiker while the rest ran away.
The point is to understand bears can randomly appear in NJ woods when least expected and to know the right ways to respond (not by following them). Google what to do when encountering a bear.
Having said all that, warning signs exist in round valley alerting hikers of potential bears. I've never encountered a bear at round valley when camping, but read stories of others spotting them.
Avoid leaving foods out (biggest bear attractor). Place all foods in airtight container and hang it from tree with rope (many antibear products like this on Amazon). You will be fine.
