I saw Dr Pitera as a teen, roughly 15 years ago, for depression and anxiety. I have been trying to get my patient records from them for several years now..... He did take the time to listen and seemed to care about his patients, but the issues with Mary (office manager/wife) have always been there. It became impossible to schedule follow-up appointments to refill medications. At the time the story was that their young son was dying of an incurable disease and we gave a lot of slack out of empathy for their situation but..... these are serious psychiatric medications he prescribes with dangerous withdrawal symptoms. Not answering or returning phone calls only adds to the distress of clients battling mental health issues and at worst can cost them their lives. I'm shocked to see this is still happening!! Not only that, but after being prescribed meds for over a year, he suddenly decided I was cured and no longer had anxiety or depression (wasn't in even therapy, only meds) and tapers me off and says I don't need to see him anymore - coveniently right as he was filing for bankruptcy. No referrals or anyone to call if things went south. I fell into the deepest depression of my life (genuinely don't think I was depressed before seeing him, just severely anxious) and almost killed myself a few months later. Last note...I'm diagnosed now with severe PTSD from childhood trauma and autism. He failed to see the traumatized neurodivergent kid in his office and instead labeled me an "anxious and depressed teen", gave me a bunch of meds I never needed, then dropped me.

My son had gone to him for at least 10 years. He was on multiple medications they were all interacting with each other. I finally took him to a holistic doctor and found out he can not have corn. My husband and I were shocked to hear was a food causing most of his issues.
