Went down for Neewollah festival. At first I had a hard time getting a hold of them to make a reservations, but I did. When I checked in, I realized it was one very sweet elderly lady running the hotel, and she probably didn't move as quick as my patience would allow. We got there, the hotel was very clean, quaint, and just wonderful. I had no cell service out here, didn't realize until the evening of our last night they had free WiFi and it was definitely for the best. My family and I had a great time enjoying each other's company. My parents also stayed there the same weekend, and said the owners son was there when they arrived, and helped them find a nice place to hang out and eat. Longton is about 20 minutes from independence, and Howard. But apparently is a popular stay place for hunters as they have a decent population of white tail deer (I think that's what they're called). If you're looking for fancy ammenities, and such this isn't the place, but If you're looking for a clean, friendly, quiet comfortable place too get away, this is perfect

This 9 room motel is really nice. Nestled well back off of Hwy 160, it is a quiet and cozy motel with comfortable beds and clean rooms. The t.v. is not a flat screen, but it is equipped with cable. I had a great breakfast downtown the next morning. This motel and town of Longton are a throwback to a time when the U.S. Highway was an important connector between people and places. Elk County is very picturesque as it includes the Flint Hills and Chautauqua Hills regions of Kansas -- and the people here are very nice and friendly. The motel has nice landscaping up front with plenty of large hanging baskets of flowers and flower beds in front of every room. If your travels take you through SE Kansas, then after you leave Independence and head west on U.S. 160, make sure you stop and stay the night at the Silver Bell!
