I stayed with my dog for five days in the extension rather than the main house. The staff was amazing and the grounds are beautiful! Well maintained and clean, the rooms were small but clean and had the basic amenities. They could use a desk though. No space for a laptop. If you are planning to work and need a desk… this may not be the place for you. Comfortable bed, clean, hot water with good pressure, lovely grounds, walking path to Edith Wharton’s homestead, 5 min drive to Lenox, Kripalu, Tanglewood and centrally located to access all the amazing things to see and do in the Berkshires.

Another reviewer had this feedback - "this is a motel masquerading as a “refined inn". The 'Terrace House' feels like your classic 2-star motel - patchy lawns, outdoor carpet walkways, decrepit building exterior, dirty windows, lots of noise, moldy window air conditioner unit (see photo), bugs everywhere (we think we saw a cockroach), weird stains on the walls, and hairs in the sheets and towels. The only positive is that a renovation of sorts must have been done in recent years (vinyl wood flooring, plush mattresses, fresh paint, new furniture), and we used a promo hence why I am not giving it 1 star. The office closes around 7/8pm, which I'm not sure was made clear - I saw two couples arrive around 8:30pm try to figure out how to check-in. I LOVE the Red Lion Inn. But knowing that it's the same hospitality group - Main Street Hospitality - I am very hesitant to stay in any of their other properties in the future. Reservation #: 674187048

I usually don't write reviews like this, but this place was so bad, especially given the price we paid, that others should know. We booked a stay over a long weekend. Thought we were getting a king room much like what was shown on the web site. Instead we were given a room that resembled a Holiday Inn from the 80's. Old furniture, dated bathroom. There was nothing charming or updated. The breakfast, if you want to call it that, consisted of bagels, small boxes of cereal, yogurt & pop tarts. No fresh fruit or hot items. Coffee ran out and took some time to refresh. The dining room ambiance was nonexistent. Dated, and felt like a scene from The Shining. No real tables to speak of. There are other options in the area you may want to explore.

[info for the first-time visitors] As a first time visitor, there’s no way for us to know at which part of the house we will be staying. The main building is the mansion itself, a beautiful historic building; and there’s the carriage house, adjacent to the mansion; then there’s the “Terrace house” which is a motel like 2 story building, compact settings, with pretty poor sound-proof. [our experience] We reserved the room through Chase, and we didn’t know what terrace house was like when we booked the room. With the amount we paid, we certainly didn’t expect a stay in the terrace house. However, a room on the first floor of the terrace house right by the stairs was assigned to us, it was super noisy when people passed by, no privacy at all. I later check the price on other hotel booking website, and realized that we were paying more than the price of a room in the mansion. I wouldn’t mind a room like this if I the expectation was set earlier on, but I certainly felt that the expectation of the room wasn’t reflected and communicated properly throughout the booking process. Aside from the complaints, in general, the room was clean and neat, there were a few hairs left on the headboards, but it did’t bother me too much. Overall, I’d recommend paying attention to which type of room you’re are booking to avoid surprises and disappointment.
