Grueling, started on Gregory Canyon to summit and down Greenman. Two weeks ago needed spikes, especially coming down. Sunny places were snow free, shaded had lots of snow. Several steep inclines. Went with a larger group and everyone made it, 4-6 hours. I rate it as difficult. Grandson moderate.

Great trail. We hiked up from the Gregory Canyon trailhead through the Amplitheater and it was shady and cool despite the sun. The local critters that live on the peak are obviously living on an imported diet of Cliff bars and trail mix. I wouldn't put it past them to rummage around in your pack while you're off snapping photos, so keep an eye on your banana chips folks.

I hike/run up green mountain about twice a month. You can hike up in any season, but it's usually icy in winter (many of the trails are north facing, steep, and shaded). On a lucky day, you can find wildlife or views above the clouds. Of course, the summit has great views on any clear day. There's also a cool monument on top that labels all nearby peaks. It's crowded on weekends, but not near as bad as other hikes in Chautauqua.
