Absolutely stunning. A magical, beautiful jewel in the middle of the basalt flow. You need a high clearance vehicles if you're going to drive to it, but you could park and walk from a distance. If you visit, be sure to avoid the ferns in the cave, so you do not damage them.

First stop is dead horse cave. Has stairs and cement benches along the inside. We parked the vehicle at dead horse and walked to tea kettle cave. Much like what all the reviews say if you don't have 4 wheel or high clearance vehicle you might not make it. We saw big trucks taking the road slowly as we were walking. It was great weather got there around 3pm and there We ran into about 3 others parties while hanging out at the cave, little chilly once inside the cave. We had a headlamp, but your phone flashlight will be enough. If you want the epic #doitforthegram shot get there when the sun is at its highest point. The walk was easy just following the road no coverage so if you go during hotter temperatures, be careful. It was a cool experience. As someone who is not athletic, short and a clutz this more fairly easy to crawl down and get back out.

A great cave to explore but be prepared before heading out. The road is rough. I consider myself a fairly diligent Subaru Outback driver and there were some rocks on this road that I would have rather not have driven over. Google Maps will try to take you over a canal on a bridge that does not exist.

So this place is in the middle of nowhere it’s hard to find but it’s beautiful. The GPS is inaccurate just keep following the trail and checked those black rocks there’s a lot but you will eventually find it. It’s all worth it.

Questions & Answers

Can dogs get in and out of the cave?

It is a very steep and narrow entrance/exit. Plus, there are some plants in the middle of the cave that I would worry my dog would trample. We have a mid size border collie and I think he would struggle with the steepness of the entrance. I wouldn't recommend it for dogs. The nearby dead horse cave on the other hand is more dog accessible, though bring a flashlight.
