Front office was polite and very helpful. A few of the nurses I met were nice, others you find sitting on their phones hiding in areas. The techs that were supposed to respond to help my grandfather when he hit his call button, took a long time to respond. 45-60 min average. The last day my grandfather was there, the tech wouldn’t wait for my father to get there to help him walk, insisted to him to get out of bed and he fell, smashed his face in his Walker, busted his nose. He ended up in the Jeff wash twp for 3 weeks, then manor care wash twp (DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES GO THERE) for 4 weeks. He had never made it back. He has since passed. I was disappointed in how he was treated.

This is such a homey place. Lots of overstuffed chairs and interaction with staff that is both organized and just happens in a daily living situation. There are planned excursions. activities and parties open to all (pre-covid of course). All of the staff remember residents names and takes the time to talk to and greet them. Although they offer Assisted living, trust me there are many of them including my dad who have some memory problems. For those who are Catholic, there is a mass that comes in once a month with Eucharist. The dining room offers a variety of meals off of a menu, no set meal time for breakfast, lunch and dinner- it’s kind of come and go when you want. Financial arrangements are reasonable and Joe the marketing director went above and beyond to get us every discount we could. Dad loved it there, he was fortunate to live there for 8 years! We live right around the corner so I was able to stop by on my lunch breaks. The biggest thing that put a smile on my face was seeing my dad enjoy life again.

Wash. TWP did a really good job and my mom, she got really good care. The staff was really friendly, I was amazed at how long they have been there! Lisa is like 20 years, and Carmen is the best! She helped my mom so much! She was in a single room or a studio which was definitely adequate for her. The bathroom was really big, it had a good shower with a seat and everything else is accessible for her. They also have different types of rooms. My mom would go to exercise classes, the arts/crafts were creative and she never missed BINGO. They did a lot of different activities and movies, they have a really nice multi-purpose room. Mom also was a big fan of the meals, she felt she was going out to eat every time. My mom sadly passed back in January; she got to spend a year there and went peacefully.

My mother has been a resident of Washington Township for three years. It wasn't an easy adjustment for any of us but throughout the difficult times, the staff were always available to answer our questions and to provide support and caring compassion. Now, I can say without any reservations, this is the perfect place for my mother. I can't imagine how our family would have coped with this pandemic without the kind care of the staff and the executive director Regina. Top notch all around. We have been kept informed every step of the way. Our questions are answered promptly and our concerns addressed immediately. In addition, during the quarantine, the staff has helped us to stay connected with multiple calls/face time/zoom. AND, early in January, the residents and staff ALL were vaccinated. We have been truly blessed to find this new home for her.

Questions & Answers

When I visit assisted living communities with my daughter, I find it all a little intimidating. Moving from a small house to a big community is frightening. I just don’t know if I can learn my way around a new place.

My father needs more help than we can provide for him to be safe at home. I think he realizes it but is reluctant to leave the friends he’s made in his neighborhood. Dad has lived there for about 25 years. What can we do to reassure him he can stay connec

Good question! Embarking on a new chapter in life doesn’t mean old friends have to be left behind. Assisted living communities offer a wide range of programs and events residents can invite guests to participate in. And they also offer transportation services so your dad can attend events in and around town with his old buddies. Fortunately, there are other ways your father can stay in touch. Social media channels like Facebook or a video chat service such as Skype are two easy avenues for staying connected.

My mom agreed that it was time for her to move to an assisted living community this winter. She knows she just isn’t safe living alone any longer. We found a community Mom seemed to love. Now we can’t seem to get her motivated to actually make the move. I

This sometimes happen when it actually comes time to make the move. Your mom is probably anxious and a little uncertain. A late life transition like this isn’t easy to make. What might help is to get her involved in some of the events and activities at the new community now, instead of waiting until she actually moves in. Talk with the staff to see about helping her find a buddy with similar interests and hobbies that she can bond with during her visits. Becoming more familiar with the community and with a few fellow residents can help make the move feel a little less intimidating.

My children live out of town and have busy lives. I know I need to move to a senior living community but I don’t want to burden my children with downsizing my house. What can I do? It’s overwhelming to think about doing it all on my own.

We hear this concern from seniors often. Sorting through and packing up a lifetime of memories and belongings can be overwhelming. One resource we like to share with families is a group of professionals called Senior Move Managers. They are experts at handling all of the details of a later life move. You can find one near your home by visiting the National Association of Senior Move Managers or Certified Relocation & Transition Specialist.
