Thanks for not doing your jobs and policing the law breakers. Great idea to close it down and enforce that closure on all the law abiding citizens that purchased their fishing license. That money is supposed to go to the state parks for access. I want a reimbursement for the money you stole from me. Great job njdep you’re now the criminals.

I was just there on Saturday and it was open. 👍
Menantico Ponds is a Wildlife Management Area controlled by NJ Fish and Wildlife, not a State Park. Select state parks and forests have overnight accommodations available to the public for a fee. Wildlife Management Areas (such as Menantico Ponds) prohibit camping as well as fires, picnicking, alcoholic beverages, swimming, and off-road vehicles (ATV's, UTV's and Dirtbikes). These properties are for thw wildlife and for hunting, fishing and trapping.
It's open now. It's closed from about mid May to mid September.
Too many people turned it into a party place...swimming and BBQs beer bottles and cans and all kinds of other trash ..so because of a few rule breakers and litter bugs everyone has to deal with the closure..My favorite time of the year out there and its no allowance ...Sucks ive been paying for a hunting and fishing license since i was a kid ..Think the state of NJ is gonna reimburse me since they took away one of my go to spots?
Heard from a cop I met back there while they were kicking people out for swimming and trashing the place (I am not one of those people) and also a news article that, sadly, Menantico and some other places in NJ are being shut down for the foreseeable future because people can't pick up their trash or obey signs that are there for a reason.
Not good for mt. Bikes
Yes, you need a current Freshwater Fishing license to fish there. The $ spent on licenses goes back to buying, maintaining and enforcement of areas like this. The annual Freshwater Fishing Digest (free w/ license purchase) lists every river and stream in the state that eventually flows into saltwater and clarifies what portion of the waterbody is freshwater and what is salt.
You can drive to the boat ramp buy taking the Menantico access road from Rt. 49 in Millville where the Fish & Wildlife sign is.
No, swimming is prohibited and enforced. Fish and Wildlife properties (called Wildlife Management Areas) do not allow swimming, wading, bathing, rafting, tubing etc...you are not allowed in the water. Also prohibited are alcoholic beverages, off-road vehicles, fires and camping to name a few. Visit njfishandwildlife.com and click on regulations, then Wildlife Management Areas for all the regs.
The place is now and always has been completely unmanned. I don't understand why Fish and Wildlife decided to close it. It requires no manpower on thier part. I suspect it's some type of petty politics. I advocate civil disobedience and take the ropes down (as they were Saturday).
This is a public recreational lake, but swimming is prohibited. Boating and kayaking are allowed. There is a boat ramp. A boat ramp permit and a valid hunting or fishing license are required. Also, there should be a local wildlife and fish rangers in the area.
