I tried to donate socks, shoes, jeans, underwear, jackets, bras, suitcase, and tote bags and a gym bag to the shelter this morning and was told they can’t accept walk up donations because they can’t store the items if the women don’t take some of the items. So she gave me the name of someone to contact. She didn’t have a card or offer a phone number or email. Her other suggestion was to take it to another shelter and they may take it. I asked if she could just tell Aimee women I was here and maybe they will take it. She said she did not have an intercom system to call them. I don’t understand why she or someone there could not make more of an effort to contact the women upstairs. This is the first time I have tried to do this and it saddens me that’s the advocate and the voice for women and children who need help.

I feel like I’ve been cheated and that my time has been wasted I was at the shelter for 6 1/2 months and obtained employment a MONTH AFTER moving in, in late July. Recently I started working in the kitchen at the shelter in November my supervisor made it hell for me once she found out I lived and worked at the shelter she used it to her advantage and involved the family advocates into OUR conflict. Long story short since the beginning I’ve held a job, placed my child in childcare, and abided by their rules until I was continuously harassed by my devil of a supervisor who used intimidation, harassment, and my destitute situation to get me kicked out of “Our House”all because I quit the kitchen position where I was emotionally and verbally abused . Mind you I met with my advocate Bree Gordon TWO WEEKS prior who assured me I wouldn’t be kicked out. A day after I had quit I was told I had a week to be out. Coincidence? I think not. I don’t see the purpose of this shelter the generous donors would be so disappointed if they knew what was taking place inside I’ve gotten so much accomplished WITHOUT Our House’s help I even had to reach out to another organization for assistance while I was in the program. My daughter’s daycare Atlanta Children’s Shelter (ACS) has done way more for us I am blessed beyond measures for them stepping in and restoring what I was lacking. I specifically informed them of the perpetual cycle of displacement they’d be subjecting me and my daughter to if they kicked us out but did they care? Hell NO. If anyone is thinking about enrolling into this program I’d suggest you reconsider, explore other options, and move in with family if you can. P.S they pick and choose WHO to help.

Coming to this shelter changed my life! My husband passed away and I was left with our children and a new born. I heard about this shelter from a friend and I called. I was put on a 2month waiting list because they only allow families with infant children to stay there. The rooms are so beautiful and actually makes you feel like you’re living in a downtown condo! The staff is so loving! Ms.Raven, Ms Bree, Ms Zuri, Ms Lee, Ms Wanda and even the CEO was so nice and concerned about my situation. The WHOLE STAFF is really great and helpful. They found me housing and even donated me a car in less then 3 months!!! The best advice that I could give anyone that’s wanting to go to this program is come in there ready to better yourself and don’t get lazy and think the shelter is supposed to just DO EVERYTHING for you. Another thing I would tell people is have your full armor of God on because there’s different people (talking about the people that live there) from all different walks of life that might influence you if you don’t know who you are and who you belong to.
