I adopted a puppy from 12 hills dog rescue a little over 8 years ago. My impression at the time of their facility was that while they may rescue dogs, they were also breeding them. At the time I picked up our 12 week old puppy, they had 3 different litters of pups in their home. 2 litters of toy breeds and the litter of medium breed pups that my Houston came from. They claimed my pup was socialized since birth (born at facility), however, when I placed her down on the floor so I could pay the adoption fee, we literally had to corner her to catch her again because she was so afraid of people. It took us 3 months of living with her in our home before she was totally comfortable with us touching, petting or catching her. She would lay next to us or play catch with us, but was skittish about being touched by us. Of the dogs in kennels that I saw , the males were not neutered, so would assume females were not spayed. The female they claimed was the mother of my pup's litter was running loose on the farm, I have never seen a rescue with free roaming dogs. I took Houston to my vet the very next day after adopting her, and after finding she had worms, he dewormed and vaccinated her, even tho the rescue's records showed her up to date on both. I signed a contract when adopting her saying that part of the agreement of them allowing me to adopt her was that I would spay her when she was old enough to be spayed. Maybe no rescue checks up on that, but I guess I thought they would have required proof of that and if not receiving proof would contact you. The rescue my daughter worked with to adopt a pet spayed/neutered all adult dogs prior adopting them out and actually did a home inspection prior to giving approval to adopt any of their rescues. The plus of my adoption of Houston is that we have a beautiful dog we all love, so we thank 12 Hills Dog Rescue for that, but 8 years ago I questioned their non-profit rescue status as I felt they were breeding for puppies because they knew that they are more easily sold or 'adopted' than the adult dogs. Possibly the rescue has evolved over the years to a more rescue type facility and my review is no longer valid, if so, then good for them, but I ran across their web page today and wanted to put my opinion out there of what I had observed when I was at their facility.

Great service; honest, hard-working folks who are doing their best to help hurt, abandoned and helpless canines. We are proud and honored to use their services.

We had been looking for a puppy for our daughter since Christmas unlucky with 3 pups that we tried to rescue but then we came across 12 hills dog rescue and they had just posted little Zowee. I immediately called and spoke with such a nice lady. (Nola) She was so sweet and also very helpful and within a few hours after reviewing our application called us back and said that we had been chosen as the new family for Zowee !! We couldn't have been happier and went to get her the next day. Everything went very well and they were all so helpful in the whole process. I would highly recommend this rescue ! So thank you again to everyone there !!

We rescued our second dog from here and he has been so wonderful. This rescue really cares and works hard to find good homes for their dogs. When we picked Fidus up, they gave us a whole bunch of goodies for him and a dog bowl which we greatly appreciated. Love what they are doing!
