We took an excursion on the train, roughly a 40 minute round-trip. Not much scenery due to the route being through a heavily populated area. Folks at the museum are very friendly.

Great price... Huge collection of railroad memorabilia.. Family friendly... Helpful and knowledgeable staff.... The events here are top notch.. Where else can you ride a vintage rail car or caboose for less then $30 a person... You step back on time, to a Era where train travel was luxurious and confortable.

You are more then welcome to visit our grounds and look around. We are located on an ACTIVE railway. Trains and equipment can move through at any time day or night. remember to STOP-LOOK-LISTEN. Please do not climb onto any of the equipment or displays, this is for your own safety. Also please reframe from walking on or between the rails, as it is very easy to trip and fall. Will 4039 ever run again?

Brian Falzon | Oct 7, 2019
Whippany Railway Museum | Oct 7, 2019

The 4039 is currently undergoing a complete restoration. This includes the fabrication of a compleat new boiler, fire, & smoke box. We had to obtain an ok from the FRA on the modern fabrication of a welded boiler that had the look of one made in 1945. This process did delay the start of the boiler fabrication. That process is about 90% completed and we should see the boiler shipped to us in the middle of this year. In parallel to that a compleat overhaul of all the running gear on the frame has to be performed, cleaning, restoration, fabrication of the thousands of parts that make up a steam engine have to be compleated. This includes both main pistons and valves. The process has been slow going, but we are hopefull that we will be very close to completion in about a year. As long as there are no unforseen issues or setbacks. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for pictures and updates
