It's a short but fairly steep trail. There's a small dirt parking lot across the road from the trailhead. The trailhead is not easily seen while driving by but there was an arrow on the road that points towards it that can be found more readily on foot. It's not too difficult as long as you take your time. Towards the end once you hit the cliff wall you'll just have to be more careful of your footing and you may have to clamber over a few boulders once the Grotto is in sight but the payoff is worth it. The Grotto is mesmerizing and the scale of the place is impressive to see in person. Pictures hardly do it justice

This post is mainly to help u find a landmark to look for as there is no signs and Google maps isn't exact. Look at pics...there is a turn off for parking, this is the only thing to look for. So start looking when Google says you are within a few minutes. I came from Fayetteville, so as I was driving down 123, haw creek was on my left and so is this parking spot. Also as u can see, some people park on the side of the road. Go across the road and start walking to the right. You will see an arrow painted on the ground, you will also see arrows painted on a couple trees. It's a steep hike for 10-15 minutes. The trail splits at some point. Just keep to the left going up the hill. Its about 25 min walk all together. . If this has helped you, please hit the helpful button

Beautiful hike. Trail head is not marked. There's a pull off across the road from the trail head. Immediately, the trail goes almost straight up the side of the hill. This is a moderate to hard in terms of technical, but it's fast. There's a lot of rocks and the path is not clearly marked. The views and the grotto are absolutely worth it. If children are experienced at hiking, they could manage the trail.

Beautiful little hike! The trailhead isn't marked super clearly, so finding it can be a bit of a challenge, depending on how thick the foliage is. The beginning of the hike is pretty moderate, but it does get pretty challenging once you get close to the grotto. Lots of large rocks and boulders to maneuver to actually get to the waterfall/overhang. But the cliffsides on the ~1 mile hike to get there are stunning! I can't wait to go back during a time where the water is flowing a bit better, I imagine early spring is the best time of year to visit.

It totally depends on the "older folks" in question. This is not a maintained, pleasure/casual trail. It's a path that is only somewhat cut out/established from irregular use. It was a bit overgrown when we did it this past September. But if you hike often, you won't think much of it and you'll find your way. It's by no means easy, but well below technical and/or difficult. But if you're comfortable with these things, it's so worth it! The gifts at the end are truly once in a lifetime stuff. After traveling the US for over a year, this still remains one of my favorite natural wonders.
Only a half mile or so but it's a medium tough uphill in the beginning and a steep downhill near the waterfall. Medium difficulty picking a path through the rocks close to the waterfall.
Haw creek falls is across the road. Theres no hookups or sewer facilities though.
My 3 year old daughter walked the majority by herself.
No. You really just park in the ditch. Someone has painted Pam's on the Highway edge at the entrance.
