We were so lucky to have crossed paths with Dr. Naomi Salins, and I am forever grateful my dad was under her care and careful watch. Dr. Salins impacted our life in such an extraordinary way. I've never met anyone as gentle and kind, as knowledgeable and engaged, as resourceful, relentless, and remarkable than Dr. Salins. She treated my dad for 4 years; he had Parkinson's Disease. With her guidance, we made a terrible condition as good as it could possibly be. There was enormous trust. She was always two steps ahead of my dad's decline, knowing just what to do and say, knowing how to guide us and approach each stage. I sound schmalzty, but she was a Godsend and a true blessing to us right from the start -- and she was there with us to the inevitable end. I miss my dad terribly... and I miss the support system we built -- the nurses, the physical and occupational therapists, the speech pathologists, the case managers, the receptionists, the valet -- but I miss Dr. Salins most of all. -- Richard Black, Bill Black's son

My father has been coming here for a number of years, but really the options for treatment of his Parkinson's seem to be limited. This facility specializes in the disease, but we find that there is really not much they can do for us beyond what his local primary care physician can provide. They merely put him through a routine assessment test each time and renew his carbidopa-levodopa prescription. We've decided to just continue treatment with his local doctor, which will save us a three hour drive. Then, there's the very confusing corporate structure here, The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, is part of Barrow Neurological Institute, which is part of St. Josephs Hospital, which is apparently now part of Dignity Health Group. Good luck figuring out who to talk to when you need assistance.

Hi Gloria- You do need a referral to be seen, and we do accept medicare! Thanks for asking!
I have had several Zoom appointments with my Doctor.
It is the Movement Disorders program at Barrow, there should be a subsection on the Barrow website dedicated to it, though.
Hi Janet! Thank you for writing. Unfortunately we do not offer walk-in appointments.
