Nice place to adopt for people to adopt that can't have birth children and mentally challenged people can't adopt must have a clean criminal record and must past a mental health evaluation

Helping adult adoptees should be included in the price of adoption, it makes no sense why someone who could find their birth parents for $100 with AncestryDNA or something similar is being asked to pay three times that, fill out and have things notarized, PLUS wait up to half a year when these services are available. Maybe Hope Cottage will consider revising this since it's not the only means to finding a birth family anymore, people aren't going to accept sky high prices and slower processing times than a Windows 99 on DSL. Findmyfamily.org does the same thing for more people and asks only for a $25.00 donation, no paperwork or notary needed. Why they think they can charge such an egregious amount for the exact same service (but limited only to THEIR agency whereas the other isn't) is beyond me.

The way Hope Cottage treats adult adoptees is shocking. My options to find out birth family (to get a medical history) were: -Pay $300, sign a form that must be notarized, fill out additional forms, wait up to half a year, hope that nothing happens between now and then. Or: -Take a 23&Me Ancestry+Health test for $100 and wait a 2-3 week turnaround time. I took the DNA test, went to findmyfamily.org and paid a $25 donation and a woman (search angel) has done more for me in 48 hours than I ever expected. Why these records are not public or free, I have no idea. Everything is digitized, it shouldn't take more than a week to put in my birth name in your system and pull up a record. This volunteer did more in a couple of days than you do for some people in months with no fees attached, and made contact with my birth family. Did my parents not pay you enough money, Hope Cottage? Are you having a tough time with bills lately? Because your services clearly are overpriced and the turnaround is way longer than what someone else could do for nothing but out of the goodness of their heart.

How can i find out if my biological mother is out there?

Christopher, You appear to be a young guy. More recent aroptions are more open legally and easier to search. Start with the agency that managed your adoption. If they are not close by, just call. All private agencies have post adoption staff to help you. If it was a foster adoption, it will be tougher because the adoption was the likely result of some form of abuse. Best of luck. And lots of people have found their family by using DNA testing and making the results public through ancestry.com.

My main objective in contacting you is to request a more detailed history than I was able to obtain several yeas ago, when a granddaughter had serious health issues. Thank you for accepting that my need for information is a reasonable concern.

What is your question/concern?

I am now 80 years and would assume that birth parents are deceased, as are my wonderful adoptive parents. My health is exceptionally good but, for a woman my age, I find it increasingly important to have information about history.

Gay, You are right that all parents are likely deceased. And in the era when you were adopted, the information kept in files was mostly about adoptive families not birth families. I have advised others to have DNA testing done and to make the results public. You might hear from cousins, or neices amd nephews. You will need a friendly court order to open your records. Call Hope Cottage and ask for the post adoption specialist for complete directions. Good luck.

My sister had a little girl at Hope Cottage around September or October 1969, Is there anyway to find any information on this child? My sister has passed away and I really would like to find my niece. Thank you for your help.
