Beautiful area and nice spots. A little disappointed that the water spigots are all turned off. The toilets flush but you can't wash your hands. Great move from our federal government during a pandemic! Just bring extra water and some hand sanitizer.

First time camping there. The experience was amazing. The peacefulness of getting out of the city was much needed. The interaction with the 2 wild horses was Top Billing. Got the brown one to eat cookies from my hand( hope it was ok). Then the Pinto wanted in on the action. Brown one made it clear the cookies belonged to him only. He followed me to the barbeque pit and kept nudging for more cookies. Saddly there weren't any left after having had to feed the sqinnies that kept shiwing up. Campgrounds were amazing. Very clean. Park rangers were there and e3aved when present. But let us have our time. Recommend it to all. Very clean and beautiful

There are pumps distributed throughout the campsite area, one for about every 3-5 sites. Check the map carefully to see where they are located.
11am, I think arrival is 2 pm
Only some of the campsites, the rest are walk in. https://www.recreation.gov/
Not in my experience. Although you might be able to see other campers and their set ups, there is a decent amount of space between sites, so you should be good. It's really a beautiful place. I took my family out west to visit National Parks, and we stopped here between California and Utah. This campground was one of the highlights of the whole trip. This place is cool — literally; it was 110 degrees in Vegas (about an hour from this site), but at McWilliams it was a refreshing 75 degrees. Good luck! Enjoy. By the way, we were tent camping, too.
No, they close AFTER OCT 23RD.
They are open for the season, but there is no electricity access.
Check online at Recreation.gov or search McWilliams campground to see all the available campsites.
No You can check in anytime as long as you have a reservation
Yes you can make reservations, but you can also show up and it's 1st come first serve you can go online and look at how you can either reserve or purchase online you can reserve for up to one month.
Senior pass needed, but then prices reduced to $15/ night
25$ for a single 50$ for a double.
You can make reservations in advance and they also first come first serve, but they don't start until 2 pm. They have a manager on site. You can always go online to recreation.gov and look up McWilliams campground and find out their policies.
No, campfires are not allowed. The designated fire pits are covered up with a plastic bag and tape.
Yes. Before the camping area
They have reserve and walk up. Recreation.gov. I believe it's 26 for single 52 for double spot. Something like that.
early in the morning and keep going around till you find a space your chances are very small on Friday
Yes very
Like Fred said, there are camp sites for large groups. Personally, I was at McWilliams just long enough to pitch my tent and was resting up (altitude is 8500+ ft) when we were evacuated because of the "Mahogany fire". A few days later we were allowed to retrieve our gear. From what I could see, the wildfire did no damage to McWilliams, so they should be taking reservations.
When we were there in a reservation spot over Father's Day, people were arriving to and leaving from FCFS sites when they pleased. In fact, as we were leaving at 11a on Wednesday they had already closed the entrance gate and placed a sign that they were full.
10 am
Yes. If I remember correctly it's only 13 camp sites open in winter. https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232168
Yes, there are plenty of back-in style sites designed to fit smaller RVs or campers. There are a limited number of pull through sites designed for larger rigs and coaches.
8000+ ft. At the camp ground.
I've seen every dog breed up there, just make sure you keep them on a leash. I have a husky and an Australian Shepherd. I've seen pits too. You won't have a problem as long as he doesn't bother anyone. You can probably find out their exact policy at recreation.gov
Very easy .was able to pick my own spot.love this place.Don't know about weekends though.
It will be chilly at night. Right now it's nice in daytime but as soon as the sun goes down... Build a campfire and have plenty of blankets and coats. About 40° at night. My 10 yr old granddaughter was fine.
It depends upon the campsite. Most sites are limited to two vehicles and eight people, but there are sites that allow up to four vehicles and 16 people. Check the site details on recreation.gov. No, it is not loud. They have rules about noise that are pretty well followed.
No fill stations. They do have some taps throughout the campgrounds, but in areas that are designed for filling your RV. With a long enough hose though... anything is possible! I don't know what the official policy is.
Bring your own. Smiths on SkyCanyon rd has it for cheap.
Odd number campsights are reservabe online in advance and even numbers are first come first-served. I beleve 3 was a double site that was reservable online.
I was able to set up our 13' X 13' tent with just a little hanging out over the edge of the pad.
If you drive up to Hilltop c g, you can get service at the entrance.
SOME of the faucets outside the bathrooms work. Some are padlocked for some reason.
According to the camp host, the even numbered sites are walk in. Odd are reservable. If you go on a week day you can probably get a walk in with no problems. The weekend can get busy so if you can, make a reservation.
Yes, they have single vehicle and double vehicle sites. The doubles are more expensive (I think $50 as opposed to $25). However you can easily fit more than one car in a single site, but there wont be much room for activities.
No rv hookups at the campgrounds.
Do they have Dump Stations there
There are more available during peak season. They dropped it to the lower 12 sites and closed the rest when the temps consistently dropped below freezing and winter was approaching. I think there are over 30 sites.
1 RV$25, group RV$50
Yeah, as long as they are on leashes. Have fun.
Their winter price is $25 a night and it is dry camping. If you have a generator you can run it till 10pm. They do have heated restrooms but they do not have electricity, so if you use them at night be sure to bring some light. Also, they only accept cash or check.
No, first come first serve, not worries in case can't find available spot, there are 2 more campground near, but normally they have available
