We loved this campground. It wasn't too far away from some great spots to explore. There are restrooms throughout the campground so you never have to go far. Picnic tables and fire pits at each campsite as well. Even with a Full Moon in the sky we could see the full milky way with our naked eyes. The sunrise above the mountains was amazing!

Large lots compared to the camp grounds in North Joshua tree. Clean restrooms running water facuets and toilets!! The only downside is you have e to watch out for coyotes. Keep food in car, I got my t bone and marshmellos jacked.

Super clean public restrooms. Same level as well managed restrooms in places like Target I guess? Come here mainly to do star gazing — was impressed.

Questions & Answers

I am planning on going on the night of 16th-17th. Arriving Sunday night around 6pm or 7pm. What are the chances of getting a camping spot?

Sung Hong | Oct 4, 2020
Paul Sierra | Oct 4, 2020

I was there a week ago. There was hardly anyone there. I arrived at 10 PM and it was still about 85 degrees. I don't know if it would be worth staying there anytime where the heat is unbearable. My friends were there just for the night and left at 7 AM.

Thank you much. We are going exclusively to see the perseids and will be leaving in the morning. Unfortunately we won't have the chance for hikes.

Is there a dump and fill station here large enough for a 44' 5th wheel? UPDATE: This dump and fill station easily fit my 44' 5th wheel.

I disagree, I believe you can fit in the dump station. I saw some pretty big rigs use it. There is water to fill with.

Is the camp ground open late night tor check in?

There really wasn't any check-in to say, as long as you reserve your campsite online and keep a copy of it with you, as park ranger will probably stop by in morning to verify.

where's a good place to get wood 'round there for a campfire?

There's a Chevron about 12 miles away on I-10 that carries firewood. From our experience it sells out fast and isn't the best quality.

Verizon coverage is said the be good here. Can someone confirm this?

I have T-Mobile/Sprint and had absolutely no service until I drove in 29 Palms. Not sure about Verizon though, I'm sorry!

I'm planning to visit the night of the 14th-15th. Can't get off work early so will probably arrive around 10. Do I have a chance of getting a spot given that it's first come, first served and the Perseids?

Stephanie Kim | Oct 4, 2020
Paul Sierra | Oct 4, 2020

There's quite a few spots and aside from stargazers I don't think there will be that many campers. I was there a couple weeks ago at 10 and maybe 6 campers were there. There's so many campgrounds there too.

Can I picnic without reservation in cottonwood campground? No BBQ. I just eat.
