I spent 2 1/2 years as a KROL patient at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital... TPH-ITU... ITU was one of the newest units in the hospital, so the bedrooms, day area, visiting room and nursing station and restrooms were all in excellent condition... The dining area, gym, art and music rooms and therapists offices were in an older section of the building... The food that was served was very good and the dietitian paid attention to special diets... The social worker, Laurie Papell was stealing my mail... My psychologist, Dr. Rapaport, was breaking confidentiality and my whole treatment team kept me hospitalized longer than was necessary... 6-12 months would have been enough, even on KROL status... I ended up spending 2 1/2 years there... Definitely unnecessary!

I used to feel this was a good place for my son. He's been back and forth there since 2005 and the team used to be very copperative and showed concern. He was admitted in March of this year 2021 and released two weeks later without a complete plan for the PACT team he is involved with. The team did not know he was being discharged and the case manager did communicate with either of us. Although, my son is grown he still has a disability. He returned to THP from Robert Wood Johnson on the April 21, 2021 again because his mental state was not stable. We've spoken everyday until the 25th. I left a message on his case manager phone and he has not returned my call. T I've called the patient phone numerous times and keep being buzzy. I don't know what's going, however this is very alarming for me, especially when he calls everyday or every other day. He has never gotten in trouble there. The covering team that evaluated my son last month is nothing like those we've met back in 2017 and previous years. They cared and wanted to help the patients. This is supposed to be a place where patients can get help and be supported by the staff through their recovery. I guess they feel most families don't care because of their mental illnes, but I am one who loves her son and fights for him to get help.
