Did the actual trail up the mountain (most people drive to the top). From parking lot to top of mountain and back was 10 miles per the Fitbit. The trail itself is unknown length lol. Online it said 4.2, trail head said 4.5, and top of mountain said 4.7. 2400' total of elevation gain (plenty of up and downs), base to top is is about 2100'. Water sources are only on first part of trail, before you cross the road half way up the mountain. Everyone put down 3L of water easily in summer weather. Plenty of shade along the trail. Enjoy the hike!

The highest point in SC now has a crown. The wall of the Blue Ridge is close enough to be formidable but not close enough to touch. Find the state line on the staircase or the surveyors pins to stand in both Carolinas at once. Put your phone down for a minute and look around at the world.

Not at sassafras mountain. Pisgah is about an hour away from there and there some trails in the surrounding area depending on how far you want to drive.
The one to the top of the mountain is under construction. They are building a lookout on the very top. There is another lookout right next to the parking lot if you don't want to walk at all
