Been here twice so far and I like it. Once in the spring and once in the summer. Each time it's been great to experience the different flowers of the season. Nice small botanical garden with small walking trails around the outside of the garden which can be finished in 20 minutes or less. Depends on how much you rush through. You could get through the whole botanical garden itself in about an hour or so. Nice selection of plants and nice chance to see some wildlife then strolling through the trails. Some benches are available and a couple of picnic tables as well.

Such a beautiful conservatory, if I lived closer I would visit every week. We planned to visit the Natural History Museum afterwards, but we were so captivated by this wonderful collection of plants that we lost track of time! We spent three hours in the conservatory & I still don't feel like it was enough time. We'll be back! I added some photos, but the photos don't do it justice. This place is a treat & everyone deserves to experience it in person!

A great place to take kids for a wholesome family time. You can park for a fee of 5 dollars a day and then can head to conservatory and follow it up at the back at Bonsai garden and Children’s garden. There is no separate fee although donations are welcome. Garden is kid safe and friendly and also has seats for parents to keep an eye on kids. All in all a good day to spend a fun filled family day.

Made our first visit to the botanical gardens and although it was short, it was sweet. You can easily extend your trip here by taking more time to stop and smell, i mean photograph each rose so to speak. We missed out on the arboretum due to weather but plan to come back and enjoy the outdoor area when weather permits.

Yes, but a professional photoshoot needs to be registered and will incur a nominal fee.
Dogs are allowed in designated areas
The peony garden is still blooming but is now past peak. Still a lot of individual plants that look good. See it this week, though (week of June 17). If it rains hard tonight (June 19) or tomorrow that will batter the blooms, and hot weather also speeds up the bloom process.
There are certainly plenty of spots and space for it. I would call ahead and ask the front desk for confirmation.
Not to get in. Parking is $1.60 per hour. Conservatory and outside are free.

Yes, I've seen others do professional shoots here too. I don't think anyone would have an issue with it but do remember it's run by UofM and is a shared space, so please do try to be mindful of others around you. Hope you have a great time!
It is awesome you can see plants from all around the world
Hi Mariuca, Thanks for your kind offer. Unfortunately we don't accept plant donations for a number of reasons---plant diseases, appropriateness of donated plants for our existing collections, etc. You could try a school or retirement community. Regards, Matthaei-Nichols
Hi Judy, No cars are allowed in Nichols Arboretum. At Matthaei Botanical Gardens, cars are allowed only on the paved drive from the entrance off Dixboro and in the parking lots.
U have to pay for parking thats all
Hi Henry, The trails at Matthaei and the Arb are open daily sunrise to sunset, so no walking after the sun goes down.
Been there a bunch of times, never had that happen.
Hi Diane, We don't have any jobs open right now but you could watch our website for postings in the future: mbgna.umich.edu. If you're interested in volunteering there are opportunities. Check out the volunteer page on our website: https://mbgna.umich.edu/volunteer/
We don't, but our gift shop can recommend products you can use to create your own basket.
Hi Linda, No fee for this but please note, tripods and equipment other than handheld camera/phone not allowed in the conservatory on weekends.
No. They have a gift shop with various merchandise by the botanical center, but the flowers are all in the center proper and for viewing only. You won't find many "usual" flowers here either!
Inside the building by the front desk when you arrive
Amanda gave you all of the answers. One concern and I do not recall 100 percent the outside paths through the garden are a mixture of sidewalk, dirt and cobblestone. Some of which may be difficult to push a wheel chair.
If it's anything like the annual cactus & succulents society show & sale show up a bit early
